Please forgive me for the barrage of stupid newbie questions in advance.

I have one ride on my new 09, and I'm in the process of figuring things out, where stuff is, etc.

Last night we tried to check the coolant level, since I remember being told on here that the coolant is often low right from the factory. So we found the 'sight glass' inside the pod. Great. Are you actually supposed to see inside the thing?

Can you see coolant in your sight glass? Is it easy to see, if its there? We couldnt see anything, so either I have low coolant, or its just ridiculously difficult to see.

Its best to just take the right pod off that way you can add if needed. That's how I do it it only what like 4 screws holding it on.

Agreed...get yourself a torx bit and you'll be good to go. Don't be surprised to see it unusually low...depends on the TLC of the dealer in setting the bike up...check your oil level too...

the tool you need is in your toolkit under the seat.....to pull the pod cover off..

I just checked mine last night after putting about 200miles on it. I took the bike for service about 3-4 months ago regarding a heating issue. I was told that they burped the coolant system. It was perhaps a 1" lower then the recommended.

And this time the coolant was yellowish color inside the coolant pod.

the antifreeze H-D uses is yellow i use havaline or GM coolantit is more an orange color and IS compatable with the 1125's
much easier to see through that little peep hole..

Did you just mix the GM coolant? Or did you do a complete flush?

My coolant was a little low in the reserve tank, so I had to buy some from HD.

The original color was yellow and the coolant I bought per the manual from HD was orange. When I added the new coolant it turned it all orange.

When taking the pod cover off, take the top 2 torx screws out last....have a good hold on it.

Otherwise it might fall on the ground..

Just did my 620 (at 720 - whoops, heheh) and had nearly nothing in the overflow tank. Added from the gallon of HD coolant, and the HD stuff is definitely orange. 99822-02, I think? Whatever PN is in the owners' manual...

Now, if they'd only used ONE fastener type for the oil change (instead of 2-T30/10mm, 1-9mm hex and 1-17mm bolt).....<shrug>

I added about 3-4oz of Redline Water Wetter when I had less than 50 miles. The WW is red and it turned the coolant to a reddish/pink color. It was definitely easier to see than the original faint yellow color. I took the pod off last night and it was just very slightly lower than the full cold line. I put 4 oz. of filtered water into it and it is now above the full line a little. I figure it is about a 48% coolant/52% water mix now and still good down to past -25F. The more % of water the better for heat transfer but I have to have protection to at least -10F or more for winter storage. The manual shows what percentages protect down to what temperature.

I use the honda 50/50 coolant blue bottle. I had to bring mine up a bit a month ago. Just checked it last weekend and it is spot on.

Better than the damn XB's, something like a dozen T-27 screws, whatever size the drain plug is, and then an oil filter wrench.

Don't worry, the 6200 service is even easier, two drain plugs, let it drain, close it up, refill and enjoy! : D

Ya, but I cheat on the torx removals - I have a 1/4" drive bit for my 18v Dewalt drill. Put on the T27/T30 bit (whichever bike) and zip 'em right out.

Note: I ONLY do this on removal. I hand-install - don't need to play with any more helicoils!

...and it's seven torx screws on the XB chin spoiler....nearly as many as removing the RH pod cover (6) to check coolant on a Loki, but at least you can get to all of 'em on an XB ; )

And yes...I know about the "sight glass" - I'll reserve that for "pre-flight" checks; for a service check, the pod comes off.
