this was the email I sent to Erik Buell yesterday.... This past Sunday morning at a bit after Midnight I was riding home from work, my normal route. Was in my high viz orange safety vest and all my armor. I was sitting at a traffic light when a DUI driver hit me from behind, picked the bike up and threw it sideways into the next lane with me under it. Luckily I was able to quickly move the bike off me (wonderful light weight design) and only had bruised legs and shoulder. I had my bike taken to Gateway Harley/Buell (who have always been huge Buell supporters) and just got the call.....they went over the bike with a fine toothed comb front to back. Had to re-seat the rear spring and will have to replace my side cases and hand guards. But basically....my bike came through a rear end throw over collision with only minor cosmetic damage. So as soon as the insurance company gets everything signed off, I get my bike back and just have to wait till the cases come in! (left case 3 weeks, right case 1 month for some reason) So my bike Beast LIVES! Thank you to you and the Buell staff for making a wonderful motorcycle! I will always be loyal to you and to Buell! Bikes generally don't get too damaged when they land on the rider :-P Glad you and the bike are OK! |

Well luckily the one side case that didn't get ripped off on the initial impact took a lot of the hit along with the hand guard. when my bike and I finally came to a stop, the case and guard kept me from a lot of the hit. The insurance adjuster asked if I knew my side cases were $1k to replace. I said yup they were standard equip on the bike and if I didn't have such good cases she would have had a lot bigger medical claim....she shut up and authorized new cases! The wonderful driver that hit me was so out of it that he got a free ride from the police. The officer wouldn't even let him pull his vehicle up 1/2 block to the space he parked him. I'm happy to know he will more than get what is coming to him. The officer that responded was a biker too. He wasn't happy! |
