Okay, to recap, the local Hogly shop put on the new harness and for some reason the bike would only run on one cylinder. They diagnosed it as a crank sensor and replaced that (6 hours labor and dropping the motor I'm told) and that still didn't fix the problem, so they went back to the stock harness and, presto, the bike runs fine now. I have it back for the moment while they consult with Harley as to what could be the problem. One harness replacement they did two days before mine went without a hitch. I'm as confused as they are. I will say I don't think the mechanics are the problem. They seem to know what they're doing and I've heard nothing but good reports from previous owners. So, is my bike just "special," or what? It may be a bad harness. In my experience electrical stuff can and will go out with out warning. Even when they are new. I've pulled regulators off the shelf to fix a customers bike and they have been bad right out of the box. |

My day job has me occasionally working with circuit boards and I have taken them out of the package only to find they are bad so yes you could have gotten a bad harness. |

I bet they didn't seat the ECM pins properly when they installed the harness the first time. Simple mistake. ac |

I can't confirm but I have been told if they put SE blinker fluid in it,it will get all bound up, the 1125's don't like SE blinker fluid, you have to use AM blinker fluid for proper operation.... |

^^ I've never understood the point of posts like that, it adds no value to the thread.. It will be interesting to see what happens when they do it for the second time, it could have been a dodgy harness or (as has been pointed out already) it's possible that the pins were not correctly aligned.. If it all goes well the second time we'll never know for sure.. |

SE Blinker fluid works just fine, but you have to be sure you've COMPLETELY flushed out the old AM blinker fluid first. Other than that, there's nothing in the system that would prevent you from running the SE stuff. I just think it's too much trouble for too little return. |

you can use the SE fluid(slant eye)instead of the AM (american made)but unless you have all the AM gone it will go into the PH mode and you will have rice leaking all over the floor...... |

Hi Redduck, My earlier post "three strikes" describes how pins were shorted by the tech during the harness install, blowing a fuse (which they initially thought was a fried ECM). So I agree that it could be that pins were shorted or misaligned somehow. My bike is running flawlessly now , by the way. |

Why the blinker fluid posts? Those normally start during oil threads where someone is rehasing well argued concepts. This thread is about a guy who has a legitimate issue with his bike he needs help with. Let's help him. My bet is your dealer doesn't have the pins properly seated in the connector after adding the harness pin to the ECM. If you are comfortable, you can probably check this pretty easily yourself. ac |

Thanks for all the suggestions (despite the blinker fluid shenanigans, next you'll be telling me I need to replace the power band or some such.) I picked the bike up and rode it a short while. It shows 13.8 - 14.0 on the charge-o-meter, but it did seem to be hesitating a tad bit more than it did before at constant throttle. Did I understand there was also a flash that went with the harness? Maybe they flashed it and with the old harness back on it has affected the fueling until a new harness is installed. Anyway, the good news is the bike is back running on both pots, the bad news is now I have to do it all over again. |

Chances are the new hesitation is the new flash needing to learn a bit. So now you have no harness installed? ac |

Correct. They put the old one back on until they can "consult" with Harley about what could be causing the new one to misfire. Go figure. |
