BARRACUDA on front page! I thought I was sad before, but now after reading the article in the May 2010 article of Cycle World I am just sick to my stomach!!!!! All the ideas and concepts this man was developing only to be squashed. ---------- UGH! VROD motor from a lightweight demon to a bloated windbag! nuff said! GRIFFIN DIRTBIKE DESIGN, DIABLO TURBOCHARGED. Sorry but I read all this in the morning and have been disgusted all day |

Get back in your Hot Tub Machine and come back to the present. It's been discussed ad nauseum. And yeah, your feelings are shared by many. (Message edited by Kidder on April 13, 2010) |

Yeah I rarely by the mags but I had to cough up the 5 buck$ to read the obituary. The respect level for Erik went way up almost to saint hood. The good news is only 6 more month and Erik is a free man. The bad news (and I said it before) it's too late to tell HD to go F**k thereself cause the already did and us along with them |

That was a very good in depth article about Eric and Buell. Cycleworld's my favorite mag and I've subscribed to it for about 35 years! Sam |

Crazy how HD stifled the development and sale of Buell. I would've like to see an OEM full fairing but they squashed that. I would've like to have Bombardier buy the whole shop but no...hard to believe the HD management was so paranoid about further competition from Buell when they don't even compete in the same segment. Idiots...Sold my Harley... |

Great article. I wonder if the executive who said "Geez, we're losing money, what are we doing funding Erik's racing hobby?" realizes that has helped turn Harley into Oldsmobile. |

Said executive doesn't care. He believes sportbikes shouldn't be made, and can't imagine why anyone would want one. |

I sort of laughed when I read that...Then I thought, then why is the AMA running an XR1200 racing series? One reason, it says HD on the tank, not Buell...God forbid another sub of HD takes the spotlight away from the mothership... |

Been a subscriber for years and bought an extra copy off of the shelf just to show some support. Took some editorial balls to put that story on the cover and not another article about the new Honda, Ducati or... |

Harley is not running an XR1200 series. Vance and Hines is. Harley did not want to put up the contingency money. |

I had an interesting chat with an HD tech (who shall remain unnamed) over the weekend about the article. This guy has raced XB's for years so he's not your average Motor Company guy. He said that the article cleared up a lot of internal uncertainty, like why in the world would EB have HD do engine development (answer - because he HAD to). The issue of price point bloating being forced upon EB, the slow but consistent erosion of HD's customer demographic (getting older every year), and the loss of a means to keep the overall HD product line fresh and the ability to capture younger market were all on the table. Don't be too harsh on HD - there are a lot of good, smart and talented folks over there, unfortunately, they do not get the 7 or 8 digit salaries or get to make the kind of decisions that sent Buell to the curb. That thing with refusing Bombardier's offer just kills me, though....just bad business to walk away from that one. (That, and allowing yourself to be stuck with $100 million in bad paper). |

I had to go out and buy a copy. It is an excellent article with alot of information that clears up why some things were done a certain way, and usually the wrong way to no fault of Buell's. This is the statement that should clear up any question as to how $hitty of a company Harley Davidson is .... Page 48, right column, bottom of first paragraph ... "The cost of closing Buell Motorcycles was estimated to be of the same order as the TOTAL investment in Buell over its 25-year history." |

One of my customers came in and handed me his copy. Said he brought it in to give to me. Now to take the time to read it... Z |

I thought the magazine did an excellent job with the article on the closing of Buell by Harley-Davidson....and the article on the Barracuda. What I am most pleased about is the article on horsepower on page 66. The article is so well written that even Dean Adams of Superbikeplanet will be able to understand it. Any 9th grader will be able to do the math. I ought to mail him a copy. I believe the Good Book says."Cast not thy pearls before swine." Yep, I would probably just be wasting a perfectly good copy of Cycle World. (Message edited by black on April 15, 2010) |
