It will idle fine rolling up to a stop but when I put it in gear and start to slowly crack the throttle just off idle The rpm start dropping then catches as I keep opening the throttle and If I release the throttle the idle will sink all the way to 500 rpm or lower and slowly return to 1100 rpm. It will do it out of gear too just not as bad. If I try to start from under 2000 rpm it will have no power and usually back fire.fricking embarrassing. I can't clutch it lightly at idle to creep forward. the idle will just go away and stall. I have installed new Iridium plugs.did the crank case mod and put in a new UNI filter. Still does the same thing.. is this usual??

Sounds like you need to do a TPS reset.

Since your profile shows the bike is a '10 XB, the warranty should still be good, so back to the dealer, much as it pains me to say. Sounds like the Idle Air Control system is not happy. Have them look there. Hopes this helps, Dave.

I thought of recalibrating the butterfly and doing a tps reset on my 2010 . But you can't due to the ecm tps reset takes the butterfly to be preset to the correct degree opening . 2010 bike have the Idle screw covered with epoxy to prevent tampering. Factory manual says to replace throttle body. If tampered with it could void warranty. I do think this is the root cause for that stumble off Idle and no way to fix it.....Yet. I will drop in at hardly and show one of the techs there. But jeash I hate people tinkering with my bike. Even if its still under waranty....

Have to add a PM, due to a 'senior moment' when composing my first post. You mention installing iridium plugs. If there were no performance issues before the plug install, please go back and check everything that was removed/installed/wiggled/ect during the plug change. Make sure everything is back as it should be, paying special attention to the plug wires. A plug wire may not be tight on its plug, a cable may be mis-routed, and so on. That would be the place to start. Ride safe, have fun, Dave

well I went out and did the tps reset 3 time in a row because last time it didn't help and I wanted to make sure it did get reset this time. It was running kind of ragged when it starter up so I knew something was different,I then put some miles on her. tearing up some back roads getting down and and see how she holds the tarmac!!!! woo hoo that was a blast and the problem seems have disappear.not perfect but what can I expect with 2 jugs this size ..LOL But no more drop off of rpms when I start opening the throttle. thanks you for all your suggestions. hope to see you out there!!!

oops the problem is slowly starting to rear it ugly head again. If I hand hold the throttle at the 1100 rpm and blip the throttle and hold it to the eleven 1100 rpm and it sounds super. but let go of the throttle and she drops to 500 and slowly creeps back to 1100. From 1000 to 1800 rpm is just not smooth....I wish I could just set the cable tighter to hold the throttle open a little and it would be fine. can I do that or will it throw a code?

Drat!! Thought you had found the problem. Based on my experience w/older bikes, DO NOT set the idle by taking slack out of the throttle cable. As soon as you turn the handlebars, the amount of slack changes, and you will get huge changes in engine speed. Really not good. Dave

I think i will look at the tps see if I can adjust it and then reset,,,It did make a big differences when I just did the reset. Now if I can keep it from reverting back to the way it was the day before that would be a step in the right direction.
