I am at 2000 miles, and I want to put some good oil in my 1125cr. I know the service manual says to run SE syn3, but is that really good oil? I am thinking of running amsoil or mobil 1 v-twin, but what weight should i run? Also, the engine oil also goes to the tranny in the 1125, so what oil are you guys running?

I just changed my oil and put Mobile 1 in. I've used SE and Amsoil and both are also good. Stick with a brand name and the weight your manual suggests and you'll be in good shape.

I use 20/50 Amsoil in mine, no problems with it, have always run that in my Harley too.

Amsoil rocks. It can be hard to obtain, so Mobil 1 V-Twin gets my vote for an easier to obtain quality synthetic.

Some motorcycle dealers locally have it on the shelf where I live. Can be expensive but has always been a good choice for my purposes. But you are right some places it is hard to come by.

Amsoil is quite easy to get- have it delivered directly to your door. If you become a Preferred Customer, you can buy it at wholesale price. There's even a way to get a PC membership for free. PM me for details.

And just a reminder- H-D's SYN3 branded oil is semi-synthetic, not a fully synthetic oil (although it's priced higher than most full-syns).

Why would it need changing sooner? Just curious...i just switched over to it and plan on putting some serious mileage on here in the next few weeks.

Mobil 1 V-Twin oil is designed for air-cooled, large-displacement bikes. Because of their design, these engines can generate very high localized oil temperatures and high overall bulk-oil temperatures.

The Pegasus picture shows "HD 20-50" on the case, seems to be the good stuff.

The blue cap I was looking at is under the "Motor Oil" section. Scroll down a ways till you get to a blue cap bottle, push on more info. It's been working very well for me.

If you find the one I'm talking about I mainly went for the High Zinc Formula. Theres a badge right under the "A" in Amsoil, you can only make out the the word "Zinc" in the pic. I went for that to try and take some of the clatter out of the Helicon engine, It does!http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/aro.aspx

5-W40 T6

Like $21 a gallon at Wally World. I use it in my XBs and the 1125CR.

You got a new bike and got great deal! "The game" spend the least amount at HD as possible including buying oil from them. Some fing yuppie came in and shut down a great business including an american dream and this yuppie took many jobs away from honest, hard working, deserving people. Now follow the lead and make a passion of bashing Harley. Don't be afraid to buy some decals and support EBR! I have no ties to any of these people other than this Bad Ass Buell.

I've been a Preferred Customer for about a year now. Buying as he stated saves a TON of money and you can get everything from Amsoil motorcycle oil to mothers products at wholesale.

Amsoil is great. Mobil 1 is great. I use Kal Gard Oil. 10w50 in the winter and 20w50 vtwin oil in the summer. Both full synthetics they also have blends. I use all their products for my bike.

The Rotax 990 V-Twin used in the Can-Am Spyder recommends 5W40 BRP synthetic oil. while the same motor in the Aprilia recommends 5W50.

So anyway, I have 2 cases of Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W40 left over from my Ducati (totaled, don't ask). This is the same as the old Mobil 1 MX4T. It is a fully synthetic which meets (exceeds) API Service Categories SH, SG/CF, CD, JASO MA.

I think i have read other people on this forum also running this oil. Unless i can sell my stock to some Ducati owner, i will run the 4T in my 1125R. I live in northern Indiana where it usually doesn't get that hot anyway (moved here from southern Arizona were it does get HOT).

What about a 09 CR that will be ridden all summer in Phoenix? It gets rather toasty down here, and I'm currently running with Mobil 1 V-TWIN 20W-50. Should I switch to the Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40? I think the higher weight of the 20W-50 would suit the climate better. Thoughts?

Phoenix? Yes use the higher weight for sure. 10w40w is too thin for the summers in Phoenix. When in doubt use the manual as a reference.

I have been running Red Line as we carry 10W-40, 20W-50 and 20W-60.
I'd run the 20W-60 in Phoenix...

20W-50 if you only ride at night. : )
