This may have done a million times, but I was looking to get opinions on mufflers based on noise for an 09 XT. I just wanted more sound, but not too loud since I live in a development and have good neighbors that I don't want to piss off. I've done many searches and seen that they all work w/ the stock ECM (though a little lean) and I don't need a ton more HP.
How do you guys rate them most mellow to loudest? I was thinking Drummer or SpecOps. Are these louder compared to a Buell Race Can (I remember the sound of that from my 06 xb12Ss)? Thanks

I just sold my Drummer, it was too drone-y for me.

The Buell race muffler wasn't any louder or quieter than the Drummer, but the Drummer was a lower tone, more resonant noise...it got into my helmet and just droned and droned. Around town, no problem, I'm up and down the gears and on and off the throttle; long highway trips, it was too much for me.

That said, every person is different and everyone has certain audio frequencies their ears don't like. It's just my unfortunate luck that the Drummer fell square into my 'bad range', because it's a great muffler and very well built, and a good performer.

I haven't owned a special ops, but I have heard them, and they seem to have a little more "crackle" to them than the drummer.

Try wiring you muffler open - see how it sounds and runs for you.

The best part, its free.

I'm with Johnboy on this one. It's worth a try before you commit to your next muffler. I had the Buell race pipe and hated the decel pop. The bikes is just loud enough and runs well with the race ECM.

BTW Johnboy, I'm on my third application of S100 on my pipes. While they are not as nice looking as yours it's a whole heck of a lot better. Thanks again.

Hey Orangeulius,

I didn't realize that that was you ... .

BTW, did you try the S100 on the front rotor?

John

Here's how our muffler works:

In my experience, my Uly ran like POOP with the valve wired open. Soon as I hooked the valve back up properly, it was a rocket.

Ratbuell, I saw your other post. Your right, my front wheel doesn't lift like it used to but my bike also no longer pings and it used to ping like crazy in hot weather. It's very smooth throughout the rpm range.

Johnboy, the S100 gave me a little relief on my front rotor but it's too far gone. Each time I do my pipes I do my rotor hoping it will have a cumulative effect. It also looks way nicer!
