I bought the black center chin fairing (P/N M0698.02A8AMBE) for my 06 Orange Uly. Now that I'm ready to install, I have a few questions.

Some where on badweb, I thought I remembered someone saying they used some method of bolting the center to side section. I have been unable to find the thread, so here are my thoughts and questions.

1) I can just use the rivets as in the original installation, but if it has removable attachment, only the left side needs to be removed to service the oil filter. Who has done this?

2) I have found countersunk Black-Oxide 10-32 hex socket screws that appear that they would look good with the new center fairing. Does the Black-Oxide hold up okay and is it resistant to rust?

3) To use this method, I am looking at using Thread-Serts (specifically Aluminum Klik Thread-Sert) in the side fairing. Will this be robust enough to last in the long term?

4) Will the be a problem with the Black-Oxide screw and aluminum Thread-Sert, especially using a low strength (blue) thread locker?
Any and all recommendations appreciated.

I don't remember the size off hand, but small stainless steel button head hex screws, 2 washers, and a self locking nut have NEVER even come loose, and was like 2 bucks worth of stuff at the hardware store.

Were you able to get to the self locking nuts without removing the side fairings?

The center has the original rivets in mine. When changing the oil filter I remove the three right side bolts and the two front ones then just flex it out and down enough to change the filter.

As small as the rivet mounting area is I would think most types of "j" nut or blind nut will make it stick up a bit making it look out of alignment from where it should be.
