I will be at Ft. McCoy, WI for the next three weeks and I brought my ULY with me. I have never been in the area before. Any suggestions on where I can go for a good scenic ride? | ||

Head south and west to the hills along the river. In the very SW corner of the state is the small town of Petosi, home of the Petosi Brewery. A great place to stop during a ride along the river. Have lunch and get a growler to go. | ||

Just about anywhere south of there will be great. Look on Google Maps and select "terrain" to see what I mean. I get down there from St Paul every few weeks for extended Sunday rides. Also check out the roads near the Mississippi river north or south of La Crosse. You have some of the best of the midwest right there! | ||

There is GREAT riding just west of the Fort. I regularly ride Trempealeau, Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe and Vernon counties. Almost all roads are paved even small back roads that would be gravel in most other states. If your schedule permits I live about 1 hour and 45 minutes from you. The half-way point is in the heart of some excellent riding. PM me if you would like to ride someday. I have a weird schedule so anytime may work! Thanks for your service to our country! Go west to 108, the Mindoro cut, going north out of West Salem-awesome. If you feel like going further west, take 88 north, come back on cty U to cty C to 95, then southwest to 35....so many good roads here. What Union Man says is right-the heart of some great riding. Ride the training areas, it's an open post. Just don't dig in, no telling what convoy may be stopped for a simulated IED around the next bend. I wasted a bunch of diesel exploring the North Flowage, and there's nice twisties between there and contonment. | ||

Thanks for all of the help. I will check out the area if I have time. I hope the rest of the Battle Staff class is not like today. The instructor said that it was going to be a short day and we didn't get out till 1700(5pm for you civilians). I hope to get the ULY girl out and soak in so roads while I'm here in WI.I hope I didn't haul her here for nothing. | ||

I will be riding near the Fort tomorrow with a buddy. We will be in Wyeville WI @ Doc' 21 Club. We should get there at about 9:30/ 10am. PM me if you are in. We are riding a "ticket drop" style run for charity. | ||

From Sparta, take 71 to Wilton, then 131 to Ontario. Pick up 33 through Wildcat Mountain to Hillsboro. Continue on 33 to Union Center. Go north on 80-82 through Elroy. About 4 miles north of Elroy, turn left on Lee Road.Take that to Hwy "S". At the intersection, turn left and go to Town Shop Road. Town Shop Road to County A. Left turn on A takes you through Hustler. Good pizza at the "Hustle Inn". Keep going and you will get to 131. North on 131 gets you to Tomah. Keep going and you'll get to E. McCoy Blvd. Left turn should get you back to the fort. Or you could ignore all this and just explore. There are so many great roads in the area. | ||

Home safe. 663 miles today, fair weather. East of the Fort is "cranberry country". Flat, straight, the only curves were to avoid a cranberry bogs. So... Don't waste your time. |
