So I was so proud of my own high bar install until I went to fire it up. Bike started right up, idled around 1300 rpm, pull clutch no change in rpm. Drop it in first and the revs jump to about 2500. I move it to where I want it and get it back into N. When it gets into neutral the revs drop back down. Try it again and the same thing. 1. I do need to fully bleed the clutch line tonight with a speed bleeder. Would that have anything to do with the high revs by not having the clutch fully bled???? |

I just put the EBR ecm in and now I have a 2500 idle... with the clutch in and in gear. Not much compression braking, which I don't like so much... |

Sparropie- have EBR set the idle to 1200 like a lot of guys are doing. Myself included. Much nicer on the street with the low idle |

Make sure your cables aren't binding. You could be gripping the throttle just enough when you're putting it into gear. Just a thought. |

I am not gripping I don't think. Could this be related to the clutch not being bled enough? I also de-noided if that make any difference. I am sick about it but I have no binding what so ever and out of gear it idles like before. |

I was thinking about the TPS as well but did not search about how to do it. I was opening the throttle alot while doing the high bar switch to make sure of the binding. |

TPS reset... turn key on, do not start. Pull full throttle and hold for 5 sec. repete for a total of 3 times. Ta Da! |

is there a diagnostic mode to be in? |

did the tps, same as it was. Going to bleed here in about 30 minutes. When I did the TPS there was no indication that it was doing anything. That is why I asked about the diagnostic part. Thought I looked cool with my bars off the ground, now I look like a fool Had to, I have had that song in my head for about 2 months. |

taking apart throttle controls is a task that involves resetting the cables properly. a tiny bit of slack in both cables throughout this range of motion: 1. wheel straight ahead 2. wheel left to lock 3. wheel right to lock The throttle cable has to be able to open and close the throttle bodies completely without interference throughout the handlebars complete range of motion. there is no issue with the throttle from lock to lock, just when plunked in gear. 10 minutes from bleeding my friends, we will see. |

not sure what it is or was but we bled te lines and started it and let it warm up to temp and it was fine. I will find out Saturday if it is working as it should. |

That is normal upon cold start for the revs to climb if you pop it in gear. I NEVER ride mine until the cold has stopped flashing in the IC. |

it never happened before, now seems fine |

For TPS reset; no diagnostic mode, don't shut key off between throttle twists. And it doesn't show you anything is happening... |

Rombi - Mine does this if the engine isn't up to temp before taking off. Let out the clutch and the bike seems to rev up slight by itself. Pull in the clutch and the revs go down. I assumed it was some sort of EFI logic to reduce stalling during warm up. I haven't looked at mine yet but do these bikes have an idle stepper motor? |

Matthew: It's designed that way for a reason. It should do it anytime you are in 1st and easing out the clutch. Neil S. |

I haven't looked at mine yet but do these bikes have an idle stepper motor? yes they have a stepper motor,I have set the diag mode to display the stepper steps at idle with clutch pulled in,when let out it did not show the steps higher as the revs increased like I expected. I guess that when the clutch is released the ignition advance may be increased.I also have noticed that the engine runs softer with the clutch pulled in,so also sounds like more retarded when in. "It should do it anytime you are in 1st and easing out the clutch." Mine seems to only do it when the IC is still flashing cold. Did a test today - eased out the clutch with no throttle what so ever and it will run in "cruise control" mode at 2500 RPMS. Pull in the clutch and it drops back down to normal idle RPM. Don't notice it so much after warm up. Either way sounds like Rombi's observation is normal behavior. |

thats not normal behavior. well i wouldnt think so anyway... I just experienced the same thing on my CR. I was experimenting with strapping the front end for a better launch. After the front end was strapped the idle would kick up significantly when I put it in gear. Bike has never done that before. I messed around too...like was certain I didnt move/touch anything except the clutch and the gear shift lever and blam-high idle. I unstrapped it and it was fine. My brain started to liquefy so I stopped trying to figure out what happened. |
