So far so good ... I had to take it for a 30 mile spin when the dealer brought the bike back home just to be sure. Hats off to Cycle Connection H-D/Buell (Joplin, MO) - Great work on the install of both, and an excellent customer experience.

I was impressed with the workmanship and attention to detail. Pretty cool that the grand total for both was $0 after calling H-D to get them to authorize the CA canister install on their dime. Nice putting the bike in the garage without smelling fuel.

FYI ...

I was at Stone Mountain Harley in GA getting my Charging Harness installed. The Tech asked me if I had any issues with gas leaking or smelling fuel. I told him it has happened only twice that I noticed. He told me they had a 2008 1125R in the shop with that problem and Buell authorized a free CA Emissions to be installed on the bike.

Does this carbon canister mount on the exterior of your fuel tank? I had taken my bike for fuel rapidly dripping out and they changed my gas cap assembly to a black one but there is no can between the fuel tank and the end of the hose and fuel still drips out along with billows of fumes when I cut my bike off. I understand this is a race bike,do not want to have something that just dumps gas on the ground every time I ride it.

I got my charging harness done last week and my bike's performance IS a night and day difference. It no longer surges when I'm trying to cruise at a constant rate of speed, the IC does not flicker, and my battery stays charged without using my tender every day. I really enjoy riding my bike now since the throttle is actually predicable and does not surge so bad.

Picking up my bike tomorrow. Harness/carbon canister/clutch weep/and ignition switch being replaced.
I never noticed any problem with the charging system, and the bike really only had the gas leaking/smell a few times.
Now if I notice a problem I guess I will insulate the frame though, but other than that I don't think I'll have any problems.

Melsik, the canister mounts under the front seat, just behind the reservoir cap. Once it and the new charging system pieces are tucked in there, it's a pretty tight fit.

I suspect if your bike's performance was better post-harness install, that's because you had an older ECM flash and you now have the latest. I was already on the latest.

Not having the bike drip fuel when I stop and park it is going to be nice. A little bit of fuel smell goes a long way when your kid's bedroom is above the garage!

I got my CA Can put on under warranty and it's a night and day difference. Very glad I did it. Apparently the harness was already done on the bike so they didn't install anything else. Bike seems to run well.

I thought there was a trade-off to having the CA can installed. Something like it dumped the extra fuel to the front cylinder? It was mentioned in a thread a couple weeks ago.

Honestly, I am not an engineer and I am not sure what kind of effect that would have on the bike or whatnot. Has anyone noticed anything negative since having the CA can installed?

The reason I ask is because I too have gas leaking out the rear (of my bike!). Just want to know the pros and cons. I can live with the gas dripping out as it isn't a lot. But another plus to the CA can install is ditching the rear passenger pegs once the overflow tube is removed : ) I know the tube can be rerouted, but didn't want to go that route yet.

I've noticed no negative impact at all. Bike runs the same and no smell. I left everything in place for more protection for the bike in case it ends up sideways. ; )

Pros - No more fuel smell. Free under warranty.

Cons - Adds a pound of weight which will reduce your acceleration and increase your quarter mile time by .003 seconds.

My dealer first said that H-D wouldn't cover the parts/labor on a 49-state bike since it didn't come with the canister originally. But when I called H-D customer service directly, they gave me an authorization number that my dealer in turn billed H-D against. Couldn't pass up a $0 deal.

I'm not at all concerned about the tiny amount of gas going back into a cylinder. That's a drop in the ocean IMO. But that same few drops on the garage floor - Different game entirely. I just rode mine 85 more miles. Ran like a bat outta hell, front/rear AFV still sitting at 100/100.

I should have written the H-D customer service number down. I got it from another BWB member (Hogzilla), so I'll give him credit for pointing me the right direction.

Mike, Chris I definitely appreciate it. When I go in for the charging system recall I will have them do the cali can, and if they give me trouble I will call HD right in front of them. Now that is good times right there. This is definitely one of the best forums I have been on.

Smurph, sure thing. Here's a couple of before and after shots, different angles. Thankfully the tech knew the new charging subharness relay goes to the outside of the frame if the CA canister is installed. Otherwise it would be an even tighter fit than it is now. I was pleased with the work - Looks factory ...

Thanks for the pics. Is this the same canister from a Cali model xb12. The bike we bought my wife was a Cali model and I am getting ready to rip off the Cali emissions bs. Never thought I would consider putting this stuff on my bike. From what I read if you accidently over fill your tank the over flow runs to the tank and the bike runs like crap. So if that's true everyone keep that in mind at fill-ups.

Smurph, I can't be positive ... But it is the same canister that one would find on a H-D Sportster, so good chances it's the same as the XB. The hoses could be different lengths depending on the specific bike? I too read about the potential hazards of over-filling the bike with the canister installed. I don't plan to find out, so I'll just be mindful of what I've read ...

Hogzilla, the quick release seat H/W was an afterthought. I ordered those when I ordered my denoid resistor from A-S-B, before my bike was ever delivered. But now that I've installed them, I could never go back to the factory screws. Much more convenient this way, without worrying about cross-threading. I know people make their own, but the time (and my lack of fabrication skills) it would have taken me to make some myself just wasn't worth it. Order and go!

My 09 R is in the shop having the CA canister removed under warranty as it causes a vapor lock after fueling. Buell told my dealer that the problem has only been with CA bikes (canister). It seems there is no good fix......

Got my harness installed today at Jim Bailey's in Ft. Wayne. Took a few hours with the 620 mile service also. They could have taking all day for all i care, they gave me a loner like they normally do!!!

Yes it was a HD, but at least it was a VROD.

BTW, i noticed my battery voltage stayed around 14 still. I have read where some people are going as low as 12. Not sure what it means but it works!
