Does anyone have the instructions that came with the Supertrapp for S2s with external disc that can scan it for me? Thanks, Frank f_skinner at yahoo.com |

Mine had 12 plus an open end cap when I got it from Firemanjim. Ran fine stock but too loud for my taste so I put a closed cap on. You just undo the six screws and it all coomes apart. Unless they are rusted up, in which case you snap the bolts or bust the nuts welded on inside and get a Vance and Hines. In hindsight, I would soak the bugger in diesel or something to loosen it up. |

+1 on lubing the screws. Mine never really fought back, but better safe than sorry! Adding 2 discs shouldn't hurt anything, and it's a minor enough change that it won't throw anything way out of whack right away. You'll know if you went 'too far' - you'll get a flatspot (think suspension setup - a little at a time till it goes just a hair too far, then take it back to the right spot). Tune with discs for the sound you like, then do the read-the-plugs-jetting-game (because of course as you add discs you reduce backpressure/increase flow) until they read happy. I want to say when I got mine, it was all stock, 42/180 jetting, with ten or twelve discs plus the eyebrow spacer thing and a closed endcap / spark arrestor. I had upped it to a 42/190 with I think 14 or 16 discs with no problems (even ran without the endcap for a while, but it was waaay too blatty for me)...then the base gasket leaks turned into a thunderstorm conversion and when it went back together the Buell race can went on. If you need discs or bolts, I have the loong bolts designed for 2 sets of discs (24), and 24 discs plus eyebrow plus endcap. The 'trapp is a good, easily-tunable pipe with decent powerband characteristics...I just couldn't learn to love the blatty sound. Certain frequencies play hell with my hearing - comes from doing too many concerts for a living without ear protection lol. |

Frank, as you may recall, I got my bike with an open Supertrapp. I bought and mounted a stock muffler and absolutely hated having to look at the tach to see how low or high my BMW . . . uhhh Buell was reving. So I contacted Supertrapp, went to their discussion board and learned a lot. I put in new, colder plugs, as per Castro's instruction. I started with 6 discs and an open end. Forgettabout it. I then switched to 12 discs and a closed end. Still restrained, like somebody is choking you, holding both hands around your neck. After every change I rode the bike a whole day, then pulled the plugs and checked how they look. In 4 more steps I got to 18 discs and closed. That did it for me. According to the guru at Supertrapp, 18+closed = flowing the core. In fact, depending on your preferences, you will most likely choose any setup between 18 and 21 discs. It's pure music.} |

No dissin' intended but I'd say damn the torpedos. Throw in 18, see if you like the sound, then check jetting. I remember 18 being Supertrapp's magic number too. I thought mine was pretty discreet with 12. But I liked it like that. I could loan you some next month for experimental purposes (on the premise that I may be able to repair mine someday.) |

I have two end pieces and will post some pictures because I do not know what they are supposed to do. I have one on the bike now. The bike I got it off of is a modified S2T and it had 9 or 10 disc on it and it ran great. Thanks for all the discussion. |

AFAIK, Supertrapp made 2 styles of endpieces. A solid disc, engraved with "spark arrestor", and an 'open' endcap with about a 1 or 1.5" hole in the center. If you have one that has an 'eyebrow' made onto it, it's a soot deflector and I had mine with the widest part of the eyebrow at the top. If you think about it, with a closed endcap all your exhaust is turning 90 degrees - it goes down the exhaust and hits the discs, turns, and exits the sides. The eyebrow - depending on which way you orient it - keeps all that exhaust directed away from whatever it is you're trying to protect. But there's not a lot to these things, parts-wise: six screws however-many discs eyebrow endcap. I don't even think there's a removable core in the main muffler can... Lemme know if you want pics of my setup, I can take assembled and disassembled pics for ya. |

My bike came with one of these Supertrapps, with many discs and a a solid shallow-dome endcap that has a very small hole in the center. I guess I'll have to experiment my way down from 2 full disc packs (24, the current setup), to 18 and maybe fewer. Would you all recommend that I get the bike down to a sound that I am happy with, then work on re-jetting to get the A/F mix to a happy point? I have never had a bike with such a heavily modified engine - it's the parkway blue S2T that had the top end re-build w/ Stage 3 heads, etc., that was posted on here a short time ago: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/540311.html?1268452947 I'm still going through the bike to "make it mine" and understand what has been done, what hasn't (it has a pretty good service history log that came with it up through 1999 or so, but everything was done little by little, over the years, so I want to go over it more systematically). Any ideas/general support/advice? |

There is a core in the main can and I bet I can remove it (maybe I should not do that). I noticed there is a plate over the opening of the eyebrow or slot on one end cap. It looks like you can open it and close it. The effect I am going for is this. I want better low speed back pressure than the race can provides with some top end (not as much as the race can). I know, don't we all want that. As much as I hate to say this, I grew up on Harleys, I like noise and like to hear the motor. I guess I'm a FAG. (South Park reference) |

Fahren, if it is running ok you may just want to check the common wear items. This is what I usually do when I get a used S2. 1. brake pads and fluids 2. Clutch, idle and throttle cable 3. Bearings (neck, swingarm and wheels) 4. isolators (all three) 5. Rebuild carb 6. Change oil and tranny fluid 7. Check primary chain 8. Exhaust gaskets and check for leaks 9. Check your tires 10. Admit you have a problem and enter a 12 Step program |

Thanks for that list. I also have to add "get rid of tranny oil puking/leaking, from overfilling, or mucked up breather setup, or crank seal, or.... (?) LOL Frank - just putting your first and last lines together: This is what I usually do when I get a used S2. Admit you have a problem and enter a 12 Step program. I have a long way to go before buying a used S2 becomes a thing I "usually" do! |

I tell ya Frank, every time I ride the S2 I'm amazed at the low end. Something about the stock 2" header, an auto 2 to 2.5" adapter, and the race muffler...I think that 2" collector makes a difference. I'd swear it feels stronger in low/mid than my S1W (with full race exhaust - header and muffler). The S2 is 42/190, 2.5 turns out, thunderstorm heads/pistons, X1 cams, Buell race ignition, stock carb, stock header, stock air cleaner with K&N, stock bottom end, stock trans and stock gearing. Oh, and XB rocker boxes breathing into the air filter like stock. (Message edited by ratbuell on April 09, 2010) |

I forgot to mention that the default setup for the Supertrapp S2 package was 12 discs + closed cap. That's the perfect compromise between noise, torque, and revs. Again, 18 + closed = "flowing the core" = open megaphone, restriction-wise, yet somewhat less in-the-face noisy. And, yes, the glasspack can be repacked easily. Naturally it's getting thinner and louder after several years. |

That is why I was looking for the instructions. I will move up to 8 disc today. I read on there web site something different. I need to find it. |

My motor is stock Joe... If I remember correctly, yours is not. The race can is going on the project S2 (S1W motor). That does make a difference. I know the race setup on the S1W will pull your arms out of the sockets. |

Which way does this go on? Like this
Or like this
What is this for? Or more importantly, what does it do?
I have been using this one, pros cons?

Frank The top pics you need to rotate that around like an eyebrow on an old headlight.. it goes on before the discs so soot does not go up on the engine/trany.. Lower pics I run the closed endcap in the lower pic the other is an adjustable end cap... |

back together, correctly. Then I did this
Damn it. I do not remember seeing any bolts like this at the HW store. |

Those are standard allen head bolts. But if you need to get exact replacements, you can likely get a set from a MC shop that deals with Drag Specialties, Rocky Turner, or other similar large parts suppliers that happen to sell SuperTrapp/Kerker exhaust systems. I'm positive that they offer sets of replacement screws and longer ones for adding up to 24 discs. |

Thanks Sparky, I have bigger problems than the screw right now but I will check a HW store tomorrow. I hope I can get the bike sorted out by the time the S2 Gathering roles around. |

Ha, yes there are and it did not stop from riding today. Of course the vapor lock got me again. I think (and I only say this because it did not do it before) is the motor is getting too hot. Anyway, I pickup some better stuff to wrap the gas line in and I put the recalled tent assembly back on and I dropped everything in the tank. I had to drain it and fish everything out (vent valve, old vent valve and two little bearings from the old vent valve). So missing one screw in the exhaust is not bothering me at all. It has been a S2 filled weekend so far and to top it off, while I was stranded the first time today, a Uly went by me... jerk. |

Here's a crappy phone pic of mine, with all 24 discs, the eyebrow, and the closed endcap:
The eyebrow goes in as the "first disc", which you've apparently figured out. And yeah, my S2 is not stock...but comparing it as-is to the (nearly identical) S1W, it seems to have more low end than the S1W. Only difference is the cam profile (X1 cams in the S2), and the heavy stock flywheels in the S2, and that 2" versus 2.5" collector. |
