replaced my brakes on my Uly for the first time today. the rear one was a snap, but the front one had me saying many naughty words. eventually had to take the wheel off. is this what i should have done to start with or is there a trick for getting the caliper off without taking the wheel off? |

Unbolt the brake handle from the bars to give you some slack in the brake line. Line up the caliper to where it is center between two rims spokes. Unbolt the caliper and rotate the wheel and caliper downwards until you are able to get it out. |

You don't need to remove the caliper to change the front brake pads. I just did it a couple days ago on my Uly. The service manual spells it out well. Loosen the pin bolt (not remove). Remove the lower caliper mount bolt. Loosen (not remove) the upper caliper mount bolt. Remove the pin bolt. You can now slide out the pads. The inner pad must be removed from the opposite (left) side, and then turned sideways to remove. It just barely clears the wheel. Almost like it was engineered! |
