I just spent two days in a riding school on a BMW 1000RR.
WOW! This bike really is in a class by itself. The combination of power and manners is unmatched.
I just wanted to acknowledge an extraordinary piece of engineering. This is the future of motorcycling EPA and all. Bring it on.

I'll second that ... I've not ridden one of the new BWM machines, but I do keep the magazines with the reviews and pictures. I could definitely park that in the garage next to my '09R.

A friend of mine rode one last weekend & said much the same: That it was an incredibly good motorcycle.

a guy I know just got one and I sat on it at the track a couple of weeks ago. Small, compact, impressive. I sure would have liked to ride it and see what it could do.

It feels more like a Japanese bike than the Buell ergonomically, but I did like it a lot so far as first impressions go.

BMW might have a winner. I wonder how much work of the box the bike would require to be competitive? (suspension, etc.)

I'll post a more detailed review if folks are interested. I didn't want to presume this being a Buell board and all.

Rodrob, yes post a detailed review if you desire. It probably would be best to put it in the Quickboard so it gets more exposure.

Yeah I've been keeping an eye on that for a while. That was the main bike I wanted to see at the bike show this year. I see that sitting in my garage real soon.....

There should be nothing to worry about here. Generally, Buell riders appreciate all motorcycles are do not limit ourselves to just one. I too like the looks of the BMW but have not had the opportunity to ride one. Maybe one day!

My buddy just bought one and it is a beautiful bike. The German's make quality stuff for sure. I'd be proud to park one in my garage but 15K is a bit much at this time. If I was to spend that much it would be towards the Aprilia F4 (definitively one of the sexiest bikes ever made in my opinion).

For the time being I'll be content with my 1125R for sport riding and the Road King for cruising!

If had to pick a 4 cylinder itd be the BMW....but im still partial to my twins so if had to pick anything but a Buell itd be a Ducati, with the BMW a CLOSE third lol

Id LOVE to have that bike, its definetly unique looking, which is what i like..i HATE cookie cutter bikes!!

I like that Aprilia F4 as well ... The base model would be fine for me. I could go with my '09R, the new BMW 1000, and the Aprilia - Cover America, Germany, and Italy all at once. I've never cared a great deal for Ducati, but I know people that wouldn't ride anything else. It's good to have so many nice choices!

If it's pure speed your'e after with some new technology the Beemer is nice.
I have the 1125R for my speed fix and the Ducati for new/old school cool, 70's Cafe racer look, a Duc on the boil with Termi's sounds very nice

I've looked at it, sat on it a bunch of times at our local BMW dealer (about 3 miles from my house). It's one of those things - I'd like to take one out for good demo ride, but am not lusting after to own - I just can't deal with the compromises a true sport bike imposes on ergos for real world riding. I'm really impressed they did it and not doubting it's an awesome bike - but it seems like basically like little more than a German version of an I4 hyper sports bike. That's the game they want to play, so good job, then. But I think the RSV4 is more interesting.

Plus for the price of one - I was able to get a new CR & XB12Ss and still have enough left over to buy a nice used tuber...

The S1000R is a bad-ass bike, and if I had one it would have to be that weird green color. It makes my top 5 list of bikes I'd have if money was no object. Also on it are the Aprilia RSV4 Factory, the KTM RC8R and, um.. hmmm. I'd have to think what the other two would be since I can't really count bikes I already own. But if I could, I'd stick with my 1125R and Daytona 675.

I love them.
If something happens to my 1125R and I cant find another new one, it'd be my next bike.
And keep in mind - 15K is will ALL options including traction control and quick shifter. NOT BAD.
This really is a deal for the power and quality and options.

Hated the front when I saw them in mags....in person I loved it.

I am on board with the Aprilia and the BMW.

Still waiting to see what Triumph does, maybe nothing, they seem pretty content with what they have now.

I have a very long list of bikes I would love to have, if money was not an object, from Cruisers, Sport Bikes, Sport Touring, Spyder, hell maybe even a Scooter or two.
I have issues!!!

I'd park one in my stable in a heartbeat, but that would be a recipe for a divorce, so I stick with the three bikes I already own.

I always said that if i didn't have 3 cars, and i could have 3 bikes, the BMW 1000RR would be one of those 3, the other one besides my CR would be the new VMax : )

I think BMW cut some esthetic corners to make the low price point. They say $13.8, but 99% of new owners will likely buy with TC, ABS and quick shift. So the bike is now $16K + T&L and your still stuck with a goofy looking front end. BMW would have a credibility problem if the 1000RR had quality parity with their other models, people would start asking questions.

After looking at both the Aprilia and BMW and hearing from two new RSV4F owners, the Aprilia V4 would be my first choice, by a long shot. Yes, they did have a glitch early on, but they responded quickly to it. The Aprilia has also proven itself on the racetrack in a big way, taking the last double in Portugal. That was impressive with the BMW constantly having one issue after another with mediocre placing in competition. The Aprilia simply blows the doors off the BMW eventhough the BMW is rated at 193HP vs the Aprilia at 180HP. That V4 is better balanced I'm sure with a lot of torque. Knowing Biaggi and his tendency in the past to bitch about an ill performing bike, he is obviously humbled by the Aprilia. I'm really hoping he takes the championship this year. I was rooting for Haga, since I've been a Ducati owner for years, but to me hes inconsistent without the will to do whatever it takes to win. That used to be Haga, now it seems if everything isn't just so, he muddles through.

Even the pricepoint RSV4 R model gets rave reviews from MCN at the track. It has all the power and electronics as the F model but without Ohlins and bling. That bike comes in at around $16K, about 5 grand cheaper than the F model. Lastly, one of the guys I know who bought the F model can't say enough about the bike and he has owned perhaps 6 or 7 new Ducs in the last couple years, ranging from the 1198S, 999R, etc. He states the RSV4F is a perfect motorcycle, nothing like it that he is aware of.

The BMW is designed that way for a reason. Yeah, it looks funky with the two different headlights but that's kind of a BMW signature. I don't think they cut corners at all.

As far as the Aprilia, you call an engine recall a glitch?

Give BMW time on the track. I think Biaggi gives Aprilia an advantage over Corser and Xaus. Aprilia has also had more recent race experience than BMW.

I really do like the Aprilia but it looks TINY. And yeah, it is BLAZING fast. I'll still bet the BMW is a better street bike which the majority of people will buy it for.

I'm pulling for Haga. I want him to win a championship. : )

Man I want a 09 or 10 Yamaha R1 grunts out low like a twin and the top end of a inline with non of the typical buzz of a inline at highway speeds, even sounds like a twin when you put slip-ons on.
