Does anyone know what is reponsible for calculating the gear shown on the gear posiiton indicator? I assume it uses engine RPM and the VSS to calculate what gear it is in. Is this calculation done in the ECM or the cluster? ac |

Calculation is done in the cluster, I just assumed it is VSS and RPM as thats how most aftermarket ones work. |

So if I have an R and install a CR cluster the GPI will be off? Do the clusters have different part numbers R vs CR? ac |

I thought the ECM flash determines what goes on in the cluster, so the calc must happen in the ECM. |

It looks like the 09 CR and R share the same part number for the instrument cluster. I am thinking the ECM must do the math... ac |

Could it be possible that the cluster "learns" how to calculate the gear position when it is "mated" to the ecm? ac |

the math is done in the ecm. review the data that ecmspy has for your epprom. it's on there. right now the files are under temporary lock down |
