Hi all,

I picked up my 1125 from the dealer on thursday. I haven't started fiddling with it yet. I have some dumb questions I can't find the answer to by searching. I'm hoping someone can respond...

1) The plastic seat cowl where the passenger seat is, does that cover an actual seat or do I need to buy one if I want to bring someone for a ride?

2) The mirrors, can the mirrors be set further out? When I push them out to see better, they just pop back by themselves.

3) Is it possible to adjust the spring height on the rear shock to lower the bike a bit? Is that a no no?

4) On the left side there is a tube that hangs off the swing arm. It leaks oil. Is this a head breather system tube? Is it normal to drop a few spots of oil?

5) Does the engine noise diminish after the break in period? Does it help is I used synthetic oil?

6) The engine gets really hot fast. I realize that it's still breaking in and there's more friction but does that get better after the break-in?

Thanks
Peter

4) gas tank vent
5) 400miles on mine and it sounds like a helicopter....oh and mine is way louder now with aftermarket exhaust and inner airbox cover removed

There is a seat under the cover

Congrats, you probably broke them already! : )

Not really, you can play with the pre-load, but that will affect the overall handling.

Picture? There is no tube that leaks oil. There is a small tube that runs down the passenger peg for the gas vent, you may get a few drops out of that as gas vaporizes and then re-condenses in the vent tube.

Yes and yes, but it still will be a noisy engine regardless.

Define getting hot fast? The system is probably working as designed.

All good questions.

I have had my bike for 3 months now and just like everyone here wanting better mirrors and turn signals, race ECM, better pipe...My other bike is a 96 S1 that I have had for fourteen years. Welcome to the Buell family.

Check out near the bottom of the first screen there is an excellent folder called:
"New 1125R/CR Owner Information"

Hi all,

Thanks for all the responses.

1) So how does the plastic seat cowl pop off?

2) Froggy, I don't think is broken, yet, but if I keep fiddling, it will be...

3) Ok I won't mess with the suspension.

4) Yeah it does smell like gas. But its black. I guess the plastic hose is melting.

5) Good to know, I will be switching to Amsoil 20w50 a.s.a.p.

6) Froggy, the engine temp runs up to 85 - 90 degrees Celcius in no time. Usually the indicator flashes "COLD" for a couple minutes then is starts at 65 degrees and climbs fast. On the highway on a cool day it's running in the seventies. So is that normal?

1. Take it off and look at it, you'll figure it out, it's very simple.

Peter...I don't mean to sound like a jerk here but I think you need to go back to your dealer and have them run through the normal stuff with you...or take a long look through the owners manual.

There is a spot for the key on the left side of the bike by your leg. Stick the key in there and turn it. It will release the cowl.

The seat/cowl comes off with the lock key slot down on the left side of the bike in the leg area.

I'll tell you that's not hot at all think about it you average car runs at 200°-220° f. Your only at 190° at most. Wait till the summer hits and you see 210°F you'll think different after that

Hi guys, thanks again for your help.

Unfortunately I didn't get a user's guide from the dealer. They lost it or something. They promised to get me another one, but I'm not holding my breath. So I used the link on this site for the on-line user guide. It does not say how to remove the cowl from the seat. It just says how to remove the cowl. I did what it says, I put the key in hole on the left side as suggested and it unlocks the cowl and you can pop it off. My question was how do you remove the cowl from the seat itself? The Guide doesn't say anything about a seat under it...

Sorry if it sounds dumb, but I'm annoyed.

The cowl is held in place by some tabs that clip over the seat pan. Carefully pry them off the bottom, and you should have a peeny pad seat underneath. The cowl is really just a shell over the seat pillion. To get the seat/cowl off, you kinda pry up on the back end after you turn the key, then give it a bump to the rear with the heel of your hand and it should pop right off. Then you should be able to figure out how to get the shell off. Good luck

Yep those temperatures are normal. It switches from COLD mode to normal mode at around 65C, and will usually settle down and maintain between 80 and 90.

Once you get the whole seat off, the plastic cowl just pops off it. Pry it up from the back, and it should slide right out.

To reiterate,

The mirror assembly doesn't move. It's the mirror inside the assembly that adjusts. If the whole thing moves, well like Froggy says, you probably have broken it. I am willing to bet that even with that, your dealer will pick it up under warranty.
