Planning a three day MC to SW Pa. to tour the 10 covered bridges. Just something we do occasionlly.We did one summer all the Hall's of Fame in Eastern US. Also a Dinner tour in eastern Pa. another year. Any ideas on roads to take for our tour for covered bridges? I have web site for Pa. coverd bridges plus google plus GPS, so any first hand experience appreciated. | ||

Hotdog271 Already have three others we have been doing this for the last 20 some years. Our first three day trip of the season is a shake down cruise making sure our bike to bike comms work and bikes are set for the big tours later in the summer. Did a cross country trip one time, Nova Scotia another, Wash, B.C. and Vancover another, Col., Utah and Wyoming another, Southern to Mobile Bay another. We limit ourselves to just the four of us. Appreciate the offer to join in and help but we are a bunch of old farts set in our ways. Sorry I was not more specific in my first post. | ||

Paul, here is another PA ride you can take later this year (after I proof ride in mid June). Shown is around 800 miles. You camp at the start, 4 days riding @ 200 miles per day. Frenchtown NJ to Shippinsburg PA. (or reverse) Following all the "non blacktop" roads I can find. This will be big bike (Uly) friendly. It looks like around 40-50 % of total ride will be hard packed stone roads. Nothing larger then 2 lane highways between stone road sections. Lots of State Forest Roads. Nice picture taking spots like PA Grand Canyon (route goes up one side of Canyon and back down the other side). I am working on another section that goes to Hancock NY instead of Frenchtown NJ. I plan to add several covered bridges into the Hancock section. This is just the PA section of a Maine To Georgia Adventure Bike route we are building over on ADVrider.  | ||

That looks good. One of the fellows mother has a farm in the area of State College so we have a stable for he bikes. Problem is that two of the fellows do not have the taste of the enlightened of this board. One has a big Hardley and the other a big BMW touring bike. Theydo not like the getting their toys dirty. What is the map plotting program you are useing it looks very good. | ||

That picture is a screen shot of Delorme Topo 8, zoomed way out so I can show the whole route, but as you zoom in it has topographic lines. Normally the route looks different then what you see above. This is a view of the route after I converted it to a track (.gps file) that I can convert to something my Garmin buddies can load. I have been using Delorme mapping software for years. This Christmas I bought a Delorme PN-40 GPS and it comes with a copy of topo-8. | ||

There's a covered bridge on 653 outside of Somerset. Take 281 out of town and you'll run right into it. 653 is probably my favorite bike road in my area. | ||

If you head north, there's a covered bridge in Forksville, PA At the far end of the bridge is a cool general store.  |
