First, okay, it was stupid... I ran my Uly for about 20 minutes at about 45-55mph with only two quarts of brand new Amzoil 20-50 synthetic in it. The fan was screaming, so I know it got hot. Before I uncork it, am I screwed? |

If the engine did not sieze up you may be OK. |

Thanks Panhead... I was debating whether I should take it out for an hour or so and see if it chokes. Then, come back and drain it/check the oil. I am not a mechanic... I understand metal shavings would be in the oil, but how much is too much? Usually, there is a little metal gathered about the magnet on the drain plug. Should that be my guide? I am so pissed at myself. Thanks. |

No worries, that's only half a quart low. Had the engine become too hot the engine light would have blinked and the ignition would have gone into the "skip spark mode" until the engine cools off. Trust me, you'll know when that happens, I found out when my fan failed in 100 weather. |

If the oil light never came on, you had enough oil in the engine to keep things lubricated. You probably just didn't have enough in it to keep it properly cooled. I'd put the missing 1/2 quart in it and keep riding. You probably didn't get it THAT hot or you'd have gotten a check engine light and it would have gone into skip-spark mode. |
