So I'm rockin the Wife's scooter today, a Piaggio BV500. Thought I'd run it to keep the battery charged.

So I'm on the way in to work, dry, 65 deg, sunny, nice day. I am going through an intersection where 2 lanes turn left, I'm in the outside lane, and moving pretty good. The truck in the inside lane and I both catch the light green, and I'm pacing him through the turn (Therefore going quite a bit faster than him.) I guess he doesn't see me, and runs a little wide in his lane. I adjust away from him a bit, which puts me further over on the off camber part of the curve. The front end starts to wash out, and I'm looking at a lowside crash. I'm thinking "Boy is my wife gonna be pissed. She doesn't even know I'm on her bike."

Front end is sliding, and pushing toward the curb, I stomp my left foot down, which bounces me back up, but also slams my ankle around a bit (got a minor sprain coming, getting interesting as the day goes on...) the bike comes back up and wobbles violently 2 or 3 times, then straightens back up. I pull off in the next parking lot to check my shorts.

Internal dialogue..."ohshitohshitohshit... okokokok..... alright, ankle doesn't feel broken...okokokokok....breathe, breathe, breathe", etc., etc.

That's it. I'm going to get a set of bad ass boots today, and leave my dress shoes at work. F*** it. I'll do the Mister Rodgers thing and change shoes when I get to work from now on.

I got really lucky. Cheap lesson.

So here's todays learning experience... While the BV500 handles REALLY well for a scooter, it does not have Pilot Powers.

Hmmmm, I wonder if they make Pilots for scooters....???

I love the puma boots. Not cheap but look very protective.
