09 xb12x, 21k. Front disc replaced 3 times(Lyndalls pads warped it once, real quick). All smiles apart from that. |

8500 miles (yeah, I know, not impressive) with all original parts thus far and very smooth sounding/feeling/rolling orange bearings on an '07 rear wheel. I still hold on to a replacement set tho, JIC... Routine inspections of the belt shows no signs of anything beyond routine wear (heck, the belt may not even be broken in at 8500 miles!) Thought I might have had a drippy rocker box gasket but that turned out to be oil from a different source. Once the breather box hoses were relocated, I've had no issues or complaints. Front brake is still smooth as silk and pad and disk inspections look clean and problem free as well. I bought mine after lurking on lists and digging for nearly a year into archives, knowing that issues *could* exist with bikes, and saw that some others had gone through the wringer with some of their bikes (no fault of their own) but still felt like the lower cost of ownership and ease of service was too hard to ignore. '09 XT. 5 K miles. Got a comfort kit early on and dealer did the 1K service. No issues so far. I love this bike. Ok, ok, I'll admit, I'm human. I went to the Ducati site, and looked at the new multistrada. I may have even drooled. I saw and even touched a caspian blue triumph tiger with aftermarket lights. Oh, and 4 settings on the heated hand grips. But who did I go home to? My Uly. |

Wow, Portero72, on your fourth rotor! Didn't I see you at Sturgis doing high speed stoppie after high speed stoppie in the demo rink? That had to have been you! lol Four rotors! In all seriousness, you must be using some serious front brake. Sorry to hear about those kinds of troubles. What a drag. Has the root cause ever been found? Jake, sounds like you are doing well. Hey, 8500 miles is a lot of miles and who's counting anyway? Enjoyment, not miles, that's what it is all about. Fltwistygirl, hey, no harm in lookin', even droolin' occasionally, especially if you always come home and give your Uly a hug! lol No issues! Ah, that's a nice place to be. 14,600 miles on my '06 with no problems except the battery spacer/ground cleaning/hesitant starter thing. I clobbered a deer in '08 which ended up requiring the replacement of the front forks, handlebar, and frame. I don't recall if they replaced the wheel or rotor. Oh well - at least the bearings seem fine. She's still a little cockeyed after that hit, but she's all mine. |

My '06 Uly is bone stock and has had one TPS adjustment since I took delivery. I use it as a daily runner in and out of Melbourne with two-up week-end work around the 'B' roads and the occasional two-up trip. Bought new - 20-Nov-2005. Current Km - 94,500. Wear and Tear Items. Tyres - 9 rears / 5 fronts - switched to Scorpion Syncs after the 616's and was happy with them. The last two rears / single front have been Dunlop Roadsmarts. For my riding profile they are great. Brake Pads - 4 sets of front pads and 3 sets of rears - switched to SBS Sintered and don't have pulsing front any more - rotor is now worn under the service limit. Belts - on the third now. First one popped at 43,000km (replaced under warranty). Second replaced at 63,000Km - didn't break but 'squeaked' over the pulley in one spot and loose so didn't trust it. Oil Filters - changed every 4,000Km - that makes 23 so far. Oil - stuck with HD 20W50 for ages but switched to Castrol Edge Sport at 64,000Km - but went back to HD 20W50. Fork Oil - replaced at 34,000Km, 56,000Km & 78,800km (HD Type'E') - should have done it earlier than 34,000Km. Primary Oil - replaced every 4,000Km along with engine oil - stuck with Formula+. Plugs - - on the third set now, must be made from good stuff as they have never given me a problem, only replaced because it seemed like a good idea at the time. Air Filters - currently on the 5th. My Ugly pukes oil a lot if the oil level is anywhere above the bottom two 'X's - must get around to putting on a catch can. Failed Items. Several broken wires in the loom around the headstem early on - fixed by me (dealer wasn't much chop around electrics). '77' Connector caused loss of charging at 19,000Km - easy fix once you know what to look for - fixed by me (dealer wasn't much chop around electrics). Neutral Switch failed at 35,000Km - dull neutral light and intermittent 'machine gun' starter solenoid - fixed by me (you guessed it - dealer still wasn't much chop around electrics). Rear Wheel Bearings replaced at 45,000Km - didn't actually fail but felt tight when wheel was off for a puncture repair. Number plate light fell to pieces at 52,000Km - replacement ones are improved construction. R/H Fork Seal at 59,000Km. When they go they dump oil over the brakes - yuk. Front Isolator split at 60,000Km - a complete stinker to replace. The main bolt had corroded into the frame insert. Fuel pump wires were proactively re-worked at 75,000Km - I was only a heartbeat away from a roadside failure. Front wheel bearings replaced at 76,000Km - felt rough. L/H Fork seal at 78,800Km so both replaced as a set. Clutch cable broke at 85,500Km - interesting ride home from work that night. Battery replaced at 83,000Km went for another HD battery. All of the instrument background lighting bulbs failed around 84,000Km - I'd bet they have a 1000hr life. Front engine tie-bar developed play in one end - replaced at 86,000Km. At 90,000km I noticed the drive side rear wheel bearing is loose in the hub - only had one set of bearings carefully fitted but they were very easy to fit. I have a 2010 3-bearing wheel ready to put together and fit, Currently the drive side bearing is swimming in green loctite. Surprising Items Fan - this poor little unit screams its heart out every day and still keeps going. I have added the 2010 R/H scoop recently and that has reduced the fan on time by a huge amount. Clutch Cable - greased with Moly Bond at the pivot and lubricated with Formula+ in the cable itself every 8,000Km and it was surprised it lasted until 85,000Km. Primary Chain - initially I fiddled with this adjustment a lot but I was having myself on. With regular oil changes it needs a touch-up about every 20,000Km. Idler Pulley - the tiny little bearings in this thing must be made from Kryptonite - can't believe they last as long as they do. I eventually replaced them at 90,000Km when they had a slight amount of play detectable. At 94,500Km it still sounds like a bucket of bolts, doesn't use any more oil than it did when it was new (about a cup between oil changes) and is the love of my life. This is the first Buell I have ever owned and it has completely converted me. |
