Mark, thanks for the link. I finally have an action pic of me on my bike. The Gap rocks, the Tenn. cops don't. |

I was at the Gap the weekend before memorial day, rode with 50 crazy canadians. Had a blast, wore out my rear tire (on the sides), and ground off an inch of foot peg on each side. No cop presence either. Thats why I go early, before everybody stirs up the cops. |

All, Bill and I rode to Minn/St Paul taking only back roads from Lake County, IL. Took 12 hours and boy oh boy did we find some great roads including RT 108 just east of La Crosse which is a 5 mile version of Deal's Gap. Best twisties north of the Mason/Dixon line (midwest, ya'll). Bill hit a deer about 2 hours from St Paul at 80mph but he saw it commin and managed to kick it in the face and knock it down before it T-Boned him. Bill's leg is hurt but he's OK enough to Drink beer and laugh about it. We showed up at Bill's friend's home in Minn at 11pm and partied till 4am. However, Bill's X1 didn't start in the morning and he's got St Paul HD working on a new starter and battery right now. I'm sure he'd appreciate a phone call or 2 from a friend (312-543-6818 cell) while he waits on parts. He's gotta leave by noon if he wants to clear Monroe, WI by sundown. I rode back home alone and got caught south of the WI River/Rt 14 after dark, nearly ran outta gas and almost hit 4 deer and 1 pig sized racoon. I hope he makes it OK. I didn't want to leave him but I had to return to Chicago for an important meeting today. edited by chibueller on June 30, 2003 |

Daves, Karl and I reached Prairie DuChien around 12 noon and passed (what I assume was) your group heading the other way eastbound on route 60 from the Pizza Hut. We didn't want to fight in-town traffic to turn around and catch up, so we just made a leisurely return trip to Chicago via secondary roads (well, at least for most of the way). Great day for riding, and as always, the roads in that area are perfect for for riding. |

Bill update = Monday afternoon and the only starter St Paul HD can find is in sunny California. UPS overnight will get it to him by 10am and wrenching should be done by noon Tuesday. That'll get him home by Wednesday morning. Bill is trying to get St Pual HD to pull the starter off a Sporty and get him rolling tonight but they say that can't be done. He is also trying for a rebuilt or used starter but the warranty won't cover that. All told Bill is out $50 for the warranty deposit but the dealer told him he's pushing $500 for the tow and time if he didn't have that. He's trying to work out a cash deal on a new starter off a showroom model but who knows. Sam or DaveS can you help this guy? |

I'm guessing there is a starter closer, just someone doesn't know how to use the system in St.Paul. Not arguing, just stating an assumption from past observations of similar incidences elsewhere. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. I'm also going to speculate that it may not need a starter replacement, could just be a separation of the cable from the lug as has happened to others in the past. I may be wrong on this point and wouldn't be surprised if I am, but it's a cheap quick check to find out. When they've got you by the short hairs don't panic and drop your drawers. Hope all works out for him in the end. |

Bill update: Bill got St Paul HD to swap out a sporty starter from a brand new sporty that was the only one they had and it was still in the crate. The labor to remove it from the other bike cost Bill $120 and that's the only thing that the warranty didn't cover because they were going to get him a new starter but it woulda required shipping which means that he wouldn't have had it installed before noon on Tuesday. Such a late start on Tuesday would mean travel in the dark. So Bill got the biek back Monday night and headed out at 6:30 Tuesday morning. He called me from Menomonie, WI at 8:30 to tell me he was going outta cell phone range until Madison. |

Ya they also said that Sam was buying all the alcohol and supplyin the dubbage. Bill update: Called me from 14 and 23 north of the WI River and said he shot Rt 108 3 times and has a big sheit eating grin on his face. He has to make it home today because he only left 1 dog dish of food and water for his kid who is locked up in a cage under the stairs at his house. |

Windy City Club, Roger originally offered his place for the "meeting" on Thursday the 3rd of July. Now that's changed. It might be too late to try to schedule a real meeting. How about we meet at IL Buell for a ride to the south before dark? Kick stands up at 7. We can ride 'til dark then get some chow. Frank |

Roger originally offered his place for the "meeting" on Thursday the 3rd of July. My party is always on the fourth, the fireworks are on the 3rd, i belive someone at the meeting mentioned the tird, however i quickly corrected them, noone wants to drive near down town on the 3rd due to chicagos fire works, sorry for the misscomunication, however if a ride on the 3rd is a plan count me out, way to many people on the roads and way to many drinks in those people(for my taste) enjoy email for more info Roger |
