My '99 S3 was out of service for a few months while I located and got around to installing a replacement wiring harness due to multiple electrical issues. Now there is oil dripping from the clutch lever and a chuffing sound coming from the vent tube under the seat. When I took the seat off while the bike was running the oil filler cap blew off. Has anyone experienced this issue? I've never seen anything like it in over four decades of riding and working on bikes. I will replace all the hoses and flush the oil tank while the feed line is off. Could this be caused by the umbrella valves in the heads? Might there be a blockage somewhere? Where should I look first? |

Overfilled with oil causes caps to pop off. Maybe the crank seal going causing the trans oil to come up the clutch cable. Just a couple of thoughts. |

Somehow four quarts of engine oil got into the primary case. Ran the engine for a few seconds after draining oil tank and primary and observed that return oil does flow into the tank. Noise from air vent tube was gone. |

I'm a dummy! The engine vent hose and the transmission vent hose aren't even the same size. How I got the transmission vent hose on the engine oil tank is a mystery. I don't remember even handling the to-atmosphere vent. Anyway, putting the hose that made the engine-like noise onto the oil tank put things right. And the new feed and return hoses can't hurt. |

Anyone who feels that they need to replace their oil feed and return lines should be advised not to forget the drain line! It's nearly impossible to reach without loosening the tank by removing all four mounting screws and removing the fittings that the hoses bolt onto. The return line rubs the frame and will be the first to leak. |
