Strange thing about that article is that other than the title, it doesn't mention the 1190RR anywhere. It does however say that they will be racing the 1125R and and XB12R. |

It also appears that Darren James will ride in the UK XR1200 trophy for Warrs as well as riding the Deeley Buells and XR1200 in Canada, so he is going to be a busy man and racking up a few air miles this season! |

Misprint from RRW is my guess. Struck me as odd (too large of an investment from Deeley HD) when I first saw the headline. |

Fresno, with all due respect, how do you know what Deeley can afford? |

Fresno, with all due respect, how do you know what Deeley can afford? I have no idea.... HOwever, with as many bikes as it Deeley fields, the state of the new bike sales market & the general retraction of purse money and sponsorship, it was a gut feeling. Does anyone know how much an 1190RR costs? $50K $60K. |

I would certainly hope not even close to 50K, unless it is a full blown WSB machine. For 15K per year, you can lease a Suzuki GSXR 1000 superbike motor & not have to worry about blowing it up. Buell has to remain in the pricing ballpark or it will never work out for them. |

Fred Deeley could buy the Concorde SST, rehabilitate it and fly a team to and fro to Europe from Canada without breaking a financial sweat. |

Isn't the 1125RR $40K? Honestly, I have no idea what EBR is selling their race bikes for. However, If they are selling the 1125RR for 40K, then I'm going to kick my racing partners ass for not buying one for what EBR offered him one for just before Daytona...... |

Right, Ducati can sell an F09 for $120,000, or a 1098R for $45,000 and then you pay $20K for the race stuff. But EBR needs to sell handbuilt bikes for the same price as a Suzuki. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for a $15,000 1190RR. |

I have to remind folks about the REAL COST of an inexpensive racebike. Roadracing World took Jeremy Toye's R1 and raced it out of the box with tires and powercommander (first race even had the license plate mount and huge fender). Toye came in like 11th but the bike had MAJOR issues. They documented the changes needed and the costs as the season developed and by the end of the year, showed almost $60K on top of the bike in parts/pieces... not counting development time and the usual costs... In effect the RRW "box stock" R1 cost Roadracing World the initial purchase price plus over $60K - making it a $75K Superbike. |

Steve, can you tell us what year that was? I have the RRW online edition and would like to go back and read about it. Thanks. |

That was in print. I THINK it was the 2006 or 2005 season. |

Did the article happen to mention how many positions he improved in the next race after dumping 60K into a 10K bike? You can spend as much as you want on a race bike, no doubt. One key thing to remember now is, the new AMA rules, which have cut costs way down in comparison to 2005 / 2006 AMA Superbikes. No more 20K Ohlins gas charged forks.....among other things. |

Dream on, Playhard. People who really know can tell you what it costs to run, but few will because of the deals they make or it would cost more. Believe me, the forks and shocks that offer the same performance while "meeting the rules" cost megabucks too. |

Imonabuss, no need to be insulting my friend. Just my opinion. I've been around racing awhile and although I don't know everything, I do know a bit or two about building a race bike as for I have actually built a few and recently started racing again myself. GMD Computrack builds my suspensions. I know what it costs. My latest build is an 09 XB12R, on which I just placed 3rd on it at Daytona in the Lightweight Expert Super Sport Race. |

Playhard, no need to be insulting EBR when you do not know what you are talking about. Sorry, but just because you are racing in CCS does not mean you know what it costs to run AMA Superbike. I do. And Jeremy Toye is not some racing dilettante spending money for no reason. There ain't no one out running well in AMA Superbike with a stock GSXR and an engine they rented for another $15,000. There is a huge gap between what you are doing and the pro level. $50,000 for a brand new handbuilt turnkey Superbike that is rare and exotic as well would be a deal. I'm betting EBR can't build them for that. |

Imonabuss, I think you missed my point. I am in know way insulting EBR. In fact, I very much support EBR, especially since our team is now racing Buell's and buying race parts from EBR. Michael Richter and Henry at EBR were a HUGE help to me, along with some other Wisconsin Buell faithfuls, in helping me get our two 09 bike's ready in time for Daytona. So to say I somehow insulted them, is ridiculous. The point I was trying to make, and apparently did a very poor job at doing, is simple. What I meant is at this present time, I'm not sure there is a very big market out there for a 40K turn key race bike. Maybe I'm wrong, in fact, I hope I am wrong because I would very much like to see them have a lot of success. I do agree with you, EBR can and and does build a very competitive race bike. They proved that last year. I in no way meant a full blown Buell Superbike was not worth 40K or 50K. As I stated above, I have no idea what they are even selling their turn key race bikes for. I was merely hoping that they would continue to sell a bike, not necessarily the 1190, in the competitive price range as they were prior to HD shutting Buell down because I believe in doing so, would greatly help sustain their endeavor. I believe there is a much broader market for a 10K to 20K race bike that can be built upon by the buyer. After all, the grids are getting smaller and smaller in the AMA and club racers make up the largest portion of the racing market in America. With that said, a typical club racer is more apt to purchase a 10K bike and make improvements on it as he/she goes. But again, this is only my opinion and Erik Buell is a whole lot smarter then I am. With all that said, the only person I think I insulted was you and I'm really not sure how or why??? |

"What I meant is at this present time, I'm not sure there is a very big market out there for a 40K turn key race bike." Duh. What market do you imagine EBR is seeking to target with their national championship based racing machines? You seem to be suggesting that EBR try to compete with the Japanese repli-racers for the club racers' dollar. In business terms, that would be nothing short of suicide; it's an impossible goal. You don't seem to understand EBR or its intended racing machine market.

That comes across as VERY insulting if you are someone who appreciates what Erik and the folks at EBR are actually doing. It's like saying that their work is only worth $3/hr. |

Al, I think that is really cool that you as a Privateer club racer are out there hanging it out and paying out of your own pocket to race. Very cool and congratulations on your accomplishments in Daytona. Good on you.
