My peg did this a couple weeks ago:    bike has never been dropped, no reason I can think of for the spring to bend like that. The peg will go all the way down when forced, but won't spring back down as is shown in the third pic. While I'm at it, my nearest dealer is being a PITA about replacing it under warranty. I'm tired of dealing with them, so if a sponsor here could get me the part I'll just buy a new spring. IMO, the part that the peg is mounted to should be replaced under warranty as well since it's gouged and will most likely make it easier to bend the next spring. btw this happened while sitting at a stoplight. I let the bike roll forward and the peg was forced up while brushing past my leg. When I pulled forward, the peg just didn't go back down. I noticed the bent spring after getting back home and checking it out. Dealer hasn't seen it (they're 100 miles away) but insists on the phone that this damage could only be from dropping the bike. Anyone else had this happen? it's a small problem but just strikes me as an odd thing to break.. | ||

hmm this is the first I've heard of the '10 recall. Mine is a 2009 with an "August 08" sticker. (Message edited by pkforbes87 on March 28, 2010) | ||

Since the new models come out in July, wouldn't August 09 make it a 2010 model? Even if it isn't, it doesn't seem out of the question that a 2010 part wound up on your bike. | ||

I meant August 08. Which seems kind of early in the 09 model year to have any '10 parts. I'll give customer service a call tomorrow and see what they think. | ||

I've had the same thing happen with my '08 XT twice so far, well actually it is like that again so it's happened 3 times. I've replaced the spring on my own dime each time. The last time I actually had it at a dealer to get the ECM replaced under warranty and asked them to take a look at it. They came back saying that the spring was out of position (well, DUH! Thank you Mr. Obvious!), but they lubed it so it folded up easier but still didn't return to the 'down' position. It's not like I expected them to have a part in stock. I guess I'll just have to use up my last spare spring to fix it again. BTW, All of my occurrences were with a replacement ride side footpeg mount - but well before any 2010 bikes were built. Who is funding Buell Customer Service? H-D? Is that part of their "7 years of support"? I wonder if they can call themselves "Buell employees".  | ||

Just got off the phone with customer service. As expected, the 2010 recall does not apply to my VIN or any other 2009 models. I was told to bring the bike to my nearest dealer so they can verify that the bike has not been dropped. Does someone have part numbers for the spring and the part that the peg mounts into that is gouged in the pictures? (i really should get the parts book) The dealer is an hour away across some of the flattest, straightest, most non-scenic roads that Oklahoma has to offer, so I'd like to avoid a return trip for the parts if necessary  The whole dropped bike thing just gets under my skin. Really? Yep that's realistic - I dropped my bike on the right side and decided to scam the dealer out of replacement parts BUT instead of going for the more expensive items like brake lever and pedal, hand guard, frame puck.. I'll scam them out of a spring that can't cost more than $3. Dealing with HD is the low point of Buell ownership. I can't wait for Erik's inevitable Buell MoCo 2.0 | ||

Looks like it would be pretty easy to pop out the pin and reset the spring. | ||

Actually, the retail price is $0.95 (if it's the same part as the 06 Uly). Dennis | ||
