Hey guys. My name's Benny and I'm from Switzerland. I hope you don't slaughter my by posting on your forum as I ride a HD. XR1200 to be exactly. It's slightly modified for more handling and ground clearance. I regularly go out riding with Buell guys and sportbike riders as regular HD guys are way to slow ( I got my dyna for that purpose) I'm a member of www.xr1200ownersgroup.com and they suggested I should take a look at your site with my questions. I have to write a multi-page work in school(further education). It has to be about economy, marketing and stuff. So as topic I chose Buell Motorcycles. I plan to write about how they failed or were shutdown by HD. And maybe that the 1125 model was a sales flop ( I personally like the 1125CR) Here's my question: Has anyone nice sources/internet pages about Buell History, Sales figures of the last years and stuff considering the end of buell? Same for HD and financial crisis, why they bought MV Agusta, sales drop and so on. I hope you get what I mean. I have to do a thesis why BUELL was shutdown and later in the work prove it with facts. The closing of Buell may well be studied in our US business schools for years. There are many articles through the forum threads that may help your research. I would include a bit regarding how H-D restricted sales to existing Harley dealerships, many of which did not want them, instead of allowing Buell to be a franchisor to sportbike outlets. Okay, he a busy guy, but he knows the big picture and the antiquated mentality of Harley management compared to Buell. Look for the forum titled "Court" on the topics page and ask him for references to articles about the episode. Court is a long time friend of Erik Buell, Buell enthusiast, and adjunct professor at Columbia University business school. Geht's gut! | ||

Benny - A good place to start is the May Cycle World article, which gives a brief history of the HD/Buell marriage. Buell sales figures, HD financials have been posted elsewhere on the BW site, so try a search and I'm sure you will find lots of info. Good luck - please post Thesis when ready. |
