I am 6'3" and about 200 lbs. I was thinking about swapping my pegs with some from an XB9S. I am not unhappy with the way I fit on my Bolt but any little bit of extra leg room would be nice. Has anyone done this? Are there any problems with this swap? And finally, how much do the peg assemblies cost? Thanks for any help! |

I did it, and it is well worth the roughly $12 ea. for the pegs. 1 1/4" doesn't sound like much but you will notice a difference. Only problem I had was I had to shorten the adjuster bolt for the brake lever. |

For my last trip (see topic of "Firebolt for Sport Touring" I installed the XB9S pegs. I have healthy knees, but the extra room was still appreciated - I'm 6'1" w/long legs). On the shifter side, at first I lowered the shifter so much I couldn't get the bike into gear (the shifter arm hit against the case). On the brake side I used a Dremel tool to remove part of the "nubbin" that limited the amount of adjustment. I'd post photos, but I don't have the bike here. Will take a couple when I'm up in N GA next week. The photo below is the infamous "Vic", the owner of www.i-bmw.com. I think he's about 6'3". This was at the (soggy) BMW K1200RS Blue Ridge Parkway Rally a few months back. It is kinda like a monkey f**king a football, isn't it?

Camera angle makes a big difference. Stand back and use the zoom lense and the impression is more inline with reality. |

Blake, You're right - a lower camera angle makes ALL the difference

Check out the passenger peg lowering mod too. It doesn't cost a thing except a little of your time and your passengers will thank you profusely for it. Sparky |

I just got back from N GA. Had a couple of GREAT rides on the Firebolt. Love this bike. Took photos of the lowered peg issues. First is the left side. The circle shows where the interference will be if you lower the shifter too much by shortening the linkage. Will eventually prevent a shift into first. I also just noticed my jam nut is loose (!) Second is the right side. The threaded portion (again circled) shows where I removed a "nubbin" that prevented the lever from adjusting down enough. I also reversed the pin and put a reusable spring clip instead of the hard-to-reach cotter pin. Did I mention I love this bike? edited by fasteddieb on July 01, 2003 edited by fasteddieb on July 01, 2003 |

It is interesting that you noticed this after switching to the 9S pegs. When I bought my Lightning, I tried to adjust the shifter & brake pedal & found the same things. I have since considered 9R pegs to remedy the situation as I didn't want to grind on the left (shifter) side case. |

Is the shifter and brake pedal assembly different for the XB9S? (hint) |

No need to grind the case as you can just shim the shift lever out a bit with a washer and install the pivot bolt with Blue Loctite. Worked fine on my bike. |

Blake, No. The linkages are the same, different pegs. It changes the relationship between the two points (shifter/brake & peg). |

Why then doesn't the XB9S have interference problems as described above? |

Oops, you already pointed out that it does. Never mind. |

I got mine before Buell marketed them for the XB9R, right after the release of the XB9S. They are supposed to be the XB9S part numbers. I wonder what the difference is? Does anyone have current prices on the part numbers I posted? Are they still good numbers?

I'm thinking the N0006.1AD is a set (2). That would explain it. |

Really? That is encouraging. I am heading to the Buell site now to take a look. |
