Picked up a used cr with 590 miles on it. It had it's 620 service done already.

So I work on base and can't find a good spot for the base access sticker. Any one have any good ideas?

I have trouble fitting my foot under the shifter. Had the same issue with my xb9r. I was going to install the 2 inch drop pegs but wanted to see if anyone else had already done so and what their opinion of them was.

I find at low speeds there's alot of surging and bucking. The amb temp reading is very high at low speeds also (110 when it's actually 65). Guy I got it from says it has the new flash. Any sugestions?

Love the bike. Can't wate to get more seat time on it.

Welcome.

Search is your friend.

You can adjust the shifter very easily for your boot to fit under.

Surging and bucking is normal at lower RPMs. Keep the revs a little higher and you'll be okay. Just in case, I would have your dealer verify the flash.

I have the Buell Ulysses pegs which lower them 1". I like them a lot.

There's a service bulletin for an updating to the charging system that you will need to have installed. Have your dealer run the VIN for the correct bulletin.

If you are inclined to throw a little money at the bike try the EBR (Erik Buell Racing) ECM. It'll transform the throttle input and you'll have a lot more finesse at low RPM. Latest flash my bike still had a sort off/on throttle action from Idle on up to 3500. Now it's a lot more useful. The Race ECM will work with the stock exhaust in case you were wondering.

Surging...while somewhat "normal" for, as rolled out of the dealers door...it's NOT proper or as well as it can be running.

Currently...the best/easiest way is to buy the EBR, ECM like Mountain says.

Call them, tell them what you have or are going to have (int./exh.changes), and they'll send you what you need.

I (as many have) took the long way around and bought a do it yourself program to fix the way the engine runs. While it works just fine, the EBR way is faster and cheaper.

Don't let ANYONE tell you it can't run "properly".

Mike is right. I'll bet that surging is caused by an extremely lean condition.

I would agree that I'll bet it can be sorted with proper fuel mapping.

I have a bunch of xb stuff I need to sell then maybe I'll pick up a new ECM.

I was reading that ECM spy now supports 1125s. I still have a cable from the xb. May give it a shot if I can figure the new program out.

Tomorrow I'll take a look at the forks I thought they were all black.

I have a spare ECM, a full exhaust system, a box with all the stuff for a oil pump gear change, odie heat blankets for a xbr, a 2004 service book, mirror extenders, oil filters, some gaskets, dhm econo sliders, and more stuff I can't remember...
Need to list it all in the for sale section or on eBay.

took a look and think the sticker is going on the front fender. will be easer to get off when i need to change the sticker out.

I have a big inspection soon, when its over going to order the 2 inch drop pegs and see how they feel with my old touring seat.

i emailed EBR about the ecm. eventually they will get back with me.

Another option for your post decal is a long screw (to replace one of the fender screws), a spacer, and a metal 'inspection sticker' plate. Pull a fender screw, get the long screw, put the inspection plate on it, then the spacer (to keep the plate from hitting the fork), and reinstall. Not the sexiest...but keeps you from getting sticker residue on the bike : )

If you are riding on base a lot, isn't there a 25 MPH or so speed limit?

This bike is really difficult to operate smoothly at such a low speed. It's barely above idle in 1st gear at that speed, and almost no matter what you do it won't be smooth.

To counter Mike's comments about "don't let anyone tell you" or whatever, my advice as someone with 50,000+ miles in the seat on an 1125r is to keep the revs up. The motor is smoother, and the bike in general runs better.

Like a lot of mechanical things, the bike works best in roughly the middle of it's range. So, above 5k and below 7500 for normal operation.

If you have a lot of really low speed riding you have to do (20-30MPH), it's really not a very fun bike at all for that. Just suffer the pain until you can get out into an open twisty and ride normally.

20mph speed limit on most of the base...
the cr has different gearing so it should be a little better than the r but its still not a fun ride. If the new ecm or ecmspy can smooth it out a little bit ide be happy.

i had a base sticker on my blast's fly screen and it was easer to take off than the on on my Xb's fork. Pulled it off and used a heat gun.

In my opinion, anything under 25-30 is going to be pretty bumpy on these bikes. They are geared tall and just not designed around low speed applications.

Honestly, I'd not expect the race ECM to do a great job of sorting out THAT SLOW of operation. I know when I go through school zones it's just a clutching exercise.

I would just keep it in second and endure the herky-jurkey ride. Sucks but when you get the opportunity to open the throttle, it sure is a fun ride.

The EBR ECM for the CR makes 20 and below no problem, it's a completely different bike, 2-3 gear and 20-30 mph with no surging.

never heard of remote ecm flash. how does it work, or should we take that discussion to emails?

rode into work today. its about 50 outside and the bike is reading the temp as 101 when im moving slow. it got really buckey at 20mph in 1st gear. when im going 50mph it reads about 60 and has no issues.

At the lower left corner there is a plate for the registration/inspetion sticker.
Would something like this work? How big is the base sticker?
Other than that you might just want to slap it on the frame somewhere. Maybe near the steering stem.

already had it put on the front fender. it covers most of the left hand side where it attaches to the fork. Looks ok, easy to see, and when i need to remove it ill take off the fender and put a heat gun to it.

EBR contacted me and the tech guy thinks i should stop by the dealer 1st and let them try to sort out the bucking. They even contacted a Buell rep for me. It will be a few week before i can get to a dealer, but need the charging recall done anyway so may as well let them try to fix it.

Even with my EBR race ECM, I can IDLE in 1st or 2nd.
Minimum speed without clutch is 7mph with "my" tune or 10 mph with the EBR ECM.

I am sick of hearing people say this bike won't go under 30 mph without working the clutch.
Their bikes are broken.

+1, my stock 08 R is good down to about 10mph. Hell I am shifting out of 3rd into 4th just over 30mph.

My stock 09 CR is good for a few mph lower.

Apparently you can fiddle with the bike enough and make it smooth at low speed.

Great.

My advice: get the thing off base and just go ride it like it was meant to be ridden. At speed, in the hands of a skilled rider, it needs nothing. The motor, suspension and chassis are fantastic, and the bike is a dream in the high twisties or at a track day.

If you want a great ride for the parking lot, I have a Vespa here that's pretty clever. It runs great at 15mph, and doesn't even mind if you short-shift every gear.

Just going to comment on your air temp question because I didn't see if anyone else has commented on it. Take that reading with a grain of salt, it is more the ECM than it is for you, the sensor is located right in the opening of the air intake, when going slow it is picking up alot of engine heat radiating out, the acronym should be renamed to IAT ( intake air temp) instead of AT

I'll let the dealer do whatever they think they can do, and if I'm not happy with the outcome, I'll pick up a EBR ECM.
The bike is great. It just has low speed fueling issues. Enjoy your vespa. It's just not for me.

There's another thread with alot of talk about the temp sensor, and relocating it. I don't know what if any effect it has on low speed manners.
