First, why did they come mis-matched? My 05 came with a grey frame and silver rails: Then I just noticed from Delta_One's thread, his has a silver frame with grey rails: Any reasoning behind this? Second, any special tips to painting the rails to get them to match the frame? I bought the paint from American Sport Bike already. Is it just a matter of hitting everything with some 200 grit paper and spray over it? Or will I need to prime and/or clear coat to get a match? |

I too find it odd that they would mismatch like that. They may be trying to draw attention to the frame and swingarm by making them a diffrent color than the parts around them. I just painted my whole bike and I chose to match the rails and the rear fender eliminator to the bike itself, rather than to the frame. I think it looks great, but then again, I painted black. in blue, it may be too flashy... |

You may want to use a de-greaser before you sand. Just to make sure all/any road grime is taken care of. You can prime if you'd like. You'll not need any clear for it to match, right out of the can it's spot on. Why they don't match? I'm still trying to figure out why there was a need for the "magnesium" cases for the 12's. Looks as out of place as the non-matching rails and frame. |

And the Primary cover is painted a different color too. I wish I was better at painting cause I just did mine and they look ok but I know it could be better. |

I think that the xb bikes should have looked like the 09s from the start. I think when they decided to black every thing the looks improved 110%. But I also hated the amber stuff that came on the 12s for most of the years too. so when they killed that mess it was a smart move as well. |

i used to want to black out my 04 XB9s but ever since i bought the CR, i learned to appreciate the different shades of bare metal on the XB instead. now bikes that are all black or all the same shade are starting to look boring. |

My friend's 1125R is all black, but the frame/fuel tank glistens in the sun in a beautiful blue-black. It still stands out from the body parts. I have a serious problem - I like just about all the colors and combo's Buell ever came out with, all the way back to '95 - some more than others, but I could live with any of them, honestly. |

Anybody want to trade their silver rails for the dark gray ones on my '03 9S? I was gonna paint em but if a trade would make two people happy.... |

Mike, Re-PM'd you. Another reason why Buells are great. Trade around for your own personal factory custom bike. |
