somebuelldy has to have a fix for this great bike. could the fuel frame be fit with heat shield to keep fuel from expanding? coated exhaust? I just finished my first affair on the superslab with heR and don't want to see my hi-test on the floor or answer my shelias' questions about that smell.!!!!! | ||

Here is a simple temporary trick any of you who are interested! At least until you get an Evap Can Use soft rubber pipe (I used clear pipe) attached to the end of the black drain pipe. loop it back up the same way the exsting one is routed and Hey Presto!! The fuel condenses and rests in the bend of the pipe and the vapor bubbles through it. The vapor does not smell at all as strongly as when its dumping fuel on the ground under the bike. Plus for some strange reason the fuel smell from the vapor is also much reduced. Try it!! You will like it.... | ||

If you're under warranty contact your dealer or HD/Buell customer service (414-343-8400.) They will install the Cali can under warranty. Mine is getting done right now. | ||

Guess I'm the only one who likes the smell of gas and it doesn't bother me... really it is stupid to spend money on that to me... its not like oil and will leave a puddle and stain my floor 1. I paid good money for that gas, I'd prefer it to be going through the motor. The drips aren't significant, but when it spends 15-30 seconds pissing fairly aggressively, that's a non-trivial amount of fuel going overboard. 2. Again with the "pissing out a big puddle" issue, some people have things like gas hot water heaters in their garage. A bike consistently pissing out fuel is a safety concern. 3. I understand many tracks really, really don't like you dumping ANY sort of fluid onto their surface. I've been told by people riding behind me that after filling up, I would spurt gas out of every corner for the first few miles. I'm planning to get the canister installed next time I take the bike in for service. I'm concerned about what a random fuel source will do to smoothness during the lean of peak cruise, but I'd rather have it burning the gas than dumping it. | ||

Hogzilla - I owe you one! My servicing dealer (who I happen to like a lot) told me that HD said they wouldn't cover this on a 49-state bike since it's not a defect. But when I rang HD directly at the number you provided and gave them my VIN, they were perfectly happy to pay for it. I was quite impressed! Thanks to you as well Sir ... Mike | ||

Newb question here. My bike only has a couple hundred miles on it at this point due to another cold snap. But I have also noticed my bike spewing some gas from the overflow tube. Is there any negative effects of installing the EVAP can? I imagine it can't weigh very much. Just wondering if I should just leave it be and deal with the smell in the garage? I would like to remove the passenger footpegs and have read a couple threads about rerouting the overflow tube. But if HD will install this for free it may be worth having them do it instead of the reroute. | ||

I haven't heard of any negative effects from the can. The weight is negligible. It isn't a "safety" recall, so it's really personal choice if the gas leaking bothers you or not. I figure since they are fixing it for free, I'll take them up on the offer. My biggest concern was it causing an accidental fire. | ||

I actually ran a tube from where I park my bike, other end of the tubing exiting outside the garage. Plug it in when I get home. So that cured my 'inside the garage' drip and smell. But a track generally frowns on a bike with any visible leaks, especially fuel. So I wanted the carbon canister installed so I can pass tech anywhere. And you can't beat a $0 price! I noticed with mine after the canister, it would be hard to start on a hot engine and the afv on the front cylinder would go down because of the vent tube only going to the front throttle body. But it never had an engine light or failed to start. | ||

That's my main concern with the canister - feeding a random amount of fuel into the front cylinder only, which will affect the AFV (leaning out the entire cylinder map) - that should make things rougher at WOT, and could potentially lean out into a dangerous zone (just rich of peak) on that cylinder. I'm not sure if it's an issue or not, but it certainly seems like it could be a concern if you're seeing AFV changes. | ||

Well, I guess that about covers my quiery...AND THEN SOME.. any way, sounds as though my local Harley hut will be getting instructions and refit by numbers data from HDI and if I stand on my head they are smilling from ear to ear. If I knew any German I'D be screaming about the reaction my ass and brian recieved from my wrist today on the superslab. R must stand for RADICAL ROTAX REALLY.... | ||

I will vent my hose to the air box by adding a nipple into the cover, Save me dismantling the lower airbox assembly and struggling with the injector body. |
