In regards to the first photo by Nate(4_petes_sake). Arkansas has a mixture of wet/dry counties and that trip prompted us to carry a map of those counties. Awesome riding, but you gotta know where the beer is. http://www.encyclopediaofarkansas.net/encyclopedia /media-detail.aspx?mediaID=7974 |

Hey RATBUELL, are those some 1125 mirrors? do they mount ok? where do you pass the cable? And what about those extra lights you got? I guess you used the now liberated turnsignal mounts? |

First, there was a 2000 Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic. Fun first bike - looked great, and no one ever forgets that first ride home from the dealer.
Then, feeling brave, I rented one of these (H-D Road King Custom) to surprise my parents in Florida and tell them about my new hobby:
Curious about the sportier side of things, I found this on eBay for a good price (1999 Suzuki Katana 600):
I then decided to go someplace I'd always wanted to go (Scotland) and do it in a way I knew would provide the greatest adventure of my life, on a rented BMW R850R:
I really had the motorcycle touring bug now, and rented one of these (H-D Road King Classic) to see the Grand Canyon and Zion:
Then, I found the one...and the old Yamaha and Suzuki stopped getting ridden. My new 2006 Uly (I remember when it was clean and stock...):
I expanded my experience on Hogs by renting this Electra-Glide Ultra Classic (listening to CDs and the radio? On a bike?!) and touring New Hampshire and Maine:
And did this with it on the Kancamagus Highway (it was October):
Hey, credit was easy back then, and I needed a cruiser to take the place of the old V-Star (which was languishing in front of my house with the equally ignored Suzuki). Enter the 2007 H-D Dyna Street Bob:
Then I went through a BMW phase, starting by renting an R1200RT in San Francisco and touring parts of northern CA:
It continued on a BMW K1200GT rented in Denver for a tour of the Rockies and western Colorado:
Uh oh, I met a girl, and she actually agreed to take a trip down Big Sur with me on a rented H-D Electra Glide. She even agreed to marry me about a year later! Hasn't ridden with me since. No lie.
I have quite a little family, despite those two old misbehavers on the left:
No big trips since then, but the Uly and Hog have been taken care of with lots of farkles (heck, the Harley doesn't even say "Harley" anymore):
Wow, this turned out to be the story of Hooper's riding history. I keep my muffler's rust in perspective:

Mattmcc: Yep, 1125CR mirrors. Had to space them up from the mounts with longer bolts and a couple washers, to clear the handguards, but they work great. Just ran the wires along the existing wire looms to the flyscreen, made 4" extensions to splice from the bike harness to the mirror harnesses (no cutting on either end, so conversion back is plug-n-play), and plugged 'em in. Changed to the LED flasher relay from American Sport Bike (my rear signals are converted to red LEDs, too). Aux lights are these: http://www.autoanything.com/lights/69A1333A0A0.asp x Cat eye ring is wired to ignition so they come on at key-on (they're LED, very low draw). Main lamp is wired through a relay to high beam, so when I flip the hi switch I go from one light to three. VERY effective flash-to-pass And yes, mounted to the turn signal holes. |

Dcc46- Nice. How do you like the sheepskin? I'd like to get one but I'm already thinking about 1" risers and the skin would raise my butt up just a little-kind of cancelling out the risers. What I'd really like is to get the seat dished out a little bit. |

Sekalilgai, I rode past the observatory on Friday. I took 250 from Staunton down 28 to 92 to 66 (watch out once you get to snowshoe the roads are still gravel covered) to 219 into Beckley and the parents house. It was a great ride. Jimmy |

Jimmy.... Looks like our two loops shared the same 28/92 bit. Went on to Highland Scenic Highway...it was weird coming around a corner at speed to find a big pile of snow in the middle of the road! http://cheekieduckie.blogspot.com/2010/04/day-trip pin-across-bits-of-wv.html so does Mary's still do breakfast down at the beach? Sweet bikes I have owned my Uly now for approx 2 months and love it. By the way the road ended 200 feet from the sign and there wasn't a clean restroom within 12 miles.

Sikalilga-How well is the paint holding up on your bags? Particularly the ittle rubber bumbers along the bottom edges. Also is it fusion paint from Krylon? Looks good. |

Shinko 705, 130 rear tire mounted backwards on the front (had some clearance issues with the fender and chin spoiler but worked awesome in the dirt and sand. Rear tire is also a shinko 705. it's the largest they make, I think a 160. It mounts up fine even with my little bike compressor but is not wide enough to cover the lip of the rim. I was worried about hitting a rock or something but the rim held up great. Oh and yes I did get some chips in the rim from rocks. 7 water crossings through Copper Canyon will do that you know! Pic of my buddy crossing right after I did

Maximum, I like the extra red paining you've done to your Uly. Are you happy with the color matching with the plastic and do you know what the color you used is? |
