Hey Guys,

Just so you all know im brand new to this forum but and I havn't had much time to see if this has been covered in detail yet in another post so here it goes...

I got my "brand new" leftover 1125r in the beginning of the winter and now i have just about over 2k on her. I noticed in the past couple months that i have been only getting 100 miles (at very most) till my low fuel light comes on. I brought her back to the dealership when i first noticed the well known "gas evap problem" and they said it was probably just the "check valve" in the fuel system. I got her back a few days later and no change. I was also thinking that it was maybe due to the fact that my break-in was a little more gentle than it should have been, so i started romping on her a little bit more. No change was noticed. The most ive gone with the light on was about 18 miles and when i went to fill her up i only put about 4 gal in her. I never fill to the very top so that may have something to do with how much went in. Anyway, I dont think my range should be this pour...what do you guys think???

Thanks Guys!

Axl

First, try topping off the tank, resetting the "average mpg" in the instrument cluster and pay attention to it over a couple tanks of gas. That should give you an idea of the mileage you're getting.

Second, has your bike been re-flashed with the latest ECM calibration available from Buell? The original flash was not very good on gas mileage in a cruising situation. I know some dealers didn't update any bikes till after the sale was made, even on the new old stock items.

The only other thing I can think is, how do you ride it? Spirited riding will obviously decrease your mileage. Before I messed with my tune, I'd get somewhere in the 40-45mpg range babying on the highway, which in a 3 hour cruise meant i easily got 150 miles before thinking about refueling.

Fuel economy during break in will be terrible. This is just a fact of life with motors. After a few thousand miles it will loosen up and get better. It will easily do 45MPG+ on the highway and will give over a 200 mile range no problem.

Don't count on your mileage improving much, regardless of the other info you may see on this board. Take it from one who has a broken-in bike and is still getting 28 mpg averaged over countless tanks. Some bikes get better mileage than "identical" bikes, for reasons that are NOT obvious. OUT

And we're done. No answer can be better than one from someone's user name that is Gas on a gas topic!

I'm getting 24. I'd probably get 25-26 if I didn't dump gas out the rear. Going to get that looked at tonight. Hopefully will get a little better.

Correct. I know all things GAS. It's because I produce more than a Canyon,TX feed lot.

I'm thinking about a heat sink aluminum applique' to suck some of the heat out of the frame. That might stop our fuel drip issues if it works.

The dealer is lining my frame with some kind of reflective material that will help deflect some of the heat off the tank. I'll post back my results. They are doing the Cali can and electrical harness at the same time.

I'd probably get better if I didn't haul ass everywhere. Maybe your riding habits have something to do with your efficiency? Even city/highway riding makes a difference.

wow thanks for all the posts!!

1. my bike is way past the break-in period so i dont think that has anything to do with my current MPGS

2. i made it a point to bring up the reflash when i purchased the bike and they ensured me that it was. they also had to install a new fuel pump before i even got the bike. (due to the fact that it was sitting for 2 years)

3. yes i can sometimes be a little overzealouse with the throttle but most of the time i would say im an average rider.

4. i was thinking that maybe if i took it back to HD i could get them to wrap the headers and body with reflective tape to try and minimize the "gas drip". its CONSTANTLY dripping gas out the back and its so frustrating to hear that HD doesnt have a solution for it.

thanks again

Axl
