Today I just got new tires and ran into a problem when installing rear tire and brake. Q: When on rear stand in Neutral how much free spin should you have? I can try to spin mine but only tuns 3 or 4 inches after i let off?? Also, When installing rear caliper, front bolt hole surface is not going flush against mount, when i tighten bolt it will not seem to tighten all the way, There is about 7or 8 mm space between caliper and mount when bolt tightens, although bolt does not want to thread all the way in, about 6 or 7 threads shy? I have checked bolt and i am not cross threading. I did not adjust axle adjuster but did notice left side has some play in adjuster bolt now, Could I have cocked the wheel to much? Rear rotor does not rub aginst mount clerance. Any help? |

is the caliper mounting positioning tab fully in place in its SLOT (and not the casting hole in the swingarm)???? there IS a gap between the front caliper mount and the caliper, but the bolt should snug down. |

It is definatley in the slot, I can reach around a feel it. I have changed my tires my self prob 6 or 7 times and never had a problem, I guess i never noticed the GAP, What bothered me when i first put it all back together besides the GAP I grabbed the caliper and could move side to side, Not alot mind you but it was not firmly mounted. Really aggrivating! I'll give it another shot when i get off work tomorrow, At least it's going to rain! |

Th rear caliper on my X1 also has a little side-to-side play, just about 1 mm or so. But the thing about the rear wheel rotating freely, isn't that something to do with drag associated with wet clutch system? Sorry if I'm totally off-base... |

The rear caliper on my X1 is the same as Kalali's. Unfortunately, I have no idea regarding the wheel rotation when in neutral. Is the belt on both sprockets? If it is, the belt could prevent the wheel from spinning far. Old, old school wheel alignment check in the UK involved laying a straight edge under the bike from front wheel to rear with the front wheel positioned straight ahead. This gives a visual clue as to the rear wheel alignment. (This is not a recommendation for aligning wheels, just something I have used in the past for a rough guide) Chris C |

I use a micrometer in the axle adjustment slots on each side of the swingarm. I believe that's the manual recommended way of doing it. Still probably not the most accurate, but it's quick and I've never seen strange wear patterns or felt any handling issues. In other news, I swapped PM wheels back to cast yesterday, then went for a test ride without bolting the rear caliper on. That's bad. Luckily, I had a "bad feeling" about a mile from home and pulled over to look everything over. Things could have gotten interesting if that caliper would have bounced up into the rear spokes.. |

Well I buttoned every thing up today and then took it for about a twenty mile ride. Every thing seemed good, no weird squeeling or burning so I think I'm ok Bolt did finally torque down all the way but the last 5 threads or so were really tight! Good call with the Mic's I just got a new pair a while back and have not had a reason to use them yet! Before I always just eyeballed it! Pk: ALways trust you Instinct! (Good thing you did)! |
