So, I took my 1125cr to the dealership (Corzhair in Decatur, IL (service was amazing)) today to get the new harness and apparently I DID have an older fuel mapping. They updated that as well. On the hour drive home at low speeds the bike was SO smooth. THEN, I tore the bike apart to see where everything was and denoided it. With the new flash and the throttle being probably 150% less resistant to twisting I fell in love with this bike (my first bike) that I have only had for a couple weeks all over again. I have never met a more fun bike. You should enjoy it. Meat on the throttle when you want/need it, cornering like maniac you can't ask much more. | ||

So Sinjhin, just for the sake of discussion, how did you arrive at the decision that the 1125 would be a good choice as a first bike? What motorcycle experience did you have before buying this Buell? Anybody with some experience offer any advice, pro or con, for this choice? Just asking, open question. | ||

I think it all depends on the rider, if you are mature enough to not ride beyond your ability I don't think any bike is a bad choice for a first bike. The way I see it is as long as you can safely handle the bike, meaning holding it up and being able to move it around at low speeds you should be fine. This is my first 'sportbike'. My first bike I ever owned was a V-Rod which I traded in for my Street Glide. I bought my 1125r last week and am loving it. It is going to be a tough decision this year when it comes to which bike gets taken out. | ||

When I started researching what bike to buy I just fell in love with Buell and the design philosophy of the company. Then 1125cr came out and I fell in love with it aesthetically. Then I started reading this forum, researching the engine and design pricipals, etc.. It became my dream bike (previous dream bike was a lightning). This year I decided I had enough in the motorcycle fund to actually go buy a bike. I was looking to get a 600cc (not too sporty) used bike to learn on. Then, I learned about the crazy prices Buells had dropped down too. It seemed all the pieces fell into place and I got the 1125cr. I didn't want to miss my chance. I realize it is the antithesis of a begginer bike, but so far with a little responsibilty and fear of pushing myself too far I have been able to handle it ok *knock on wood*. It was actually the first motorcycle I had ever ridden, so the 1125cr is the only motorcycle experience I have. But the first night I got on it I planned on just doing a slow straight line down the road and ended up riding it around town for four hours as I did not find it too difficult. It seems to handle extremely well(though I have no other reference) and I am completely comfortable riding it as long as I don't push the envelope. | ||

The first night I rode it I got to the point of being able to take a very slow speed turn around a cone without putting my foot down or wobbling. Maybe it is because I am an avid mountain-biker? After a couple days I was coming to stops at stop signs without putting my feet down... I dunno, the bike is scary if you want it to be... but just seems to be amazingly manageable if you drive it like a car. | ||

Well you certainly seem to be an intelligent thoughtful young man and I wish you plenty of enjoyment with your foray into the motorcycle fold. At the risk of sounding like an old fart (and I know I'm not the only one here) a lot of the youth of today seem to have their act together. A lot don't of course. I see some drivers that obviously learned to drive watching video games. When I was your age back in 1977 I bought a new two year old Norton Commando. Still have it. I'm pretty sure if I had 130 hp back then as opposed to the 50hp of the Norton I would have splattered the two of us one way or the other. At 54 and I still have my "oh-oh!" moments. So enjoy and get some time on other bikes as you can just for the reference. Something like a Suzuki GS500 you can ride more to it's limits without terrifying yourself. Fun. | ||

Scottorious, sounds likely. I have only ever seen one buell in town and it was a lightning. If you see a black 1125cr, it is probably me. Feel free to chase me down. Duph, thank you for the advice. I am 23 and if I told you I was completely responsible on my bike I would be lying out my ass. Still, I do realize how freakin dangerous this machine is and I keep it within what I feel comfortable with. It is the unexpected out of control things (like little old ladies pulling out in front of me) that worries me and probably every biker the most. Still, thanks for the compliment and the concern. And yeah... I would love to get some time on other bikes just to see how good this 1125 really is  Taking the safety course this coming weekend. | ||

Yes it is the little old ladies and such but with modern 100+hp bikes the fun factor is just as much a temptation risk. The tiny amount of time and distance to get you (us) well into triple digit speeds can set you (us) up for a whole lot of stuff happening quicker than our senses and reactions can deal with them. "There" becomes "here" real quick. The car crowd has no idea how fast and fun modern bikes are. I can honestly say that it's only been the last couple of years that I've finally starting to chill my impulses a bit. I've never married or had kids so I've been blessed with an extended adolescence. Check out this web forum for a lot of informative discussions, especially for new riders and accident/crash analysis- (it's called BARF) http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/ I've centered my life around riding and racing and restoring for the last 42 years and 74 motorcycles and still have all my extremities and have not been holding up any traffic, so it can be done. Thanks Duph. Sounds like you have had a good time with your bikes the past 42 years, I hope it is the same for me. I look forward to all the adventure/sport riding to come. Thanks again for the forum suggestion. I was actually trying to find good resources the other day for crash analysis. The stories I hear of tank slap scare me and I definitely want to know the physics behind it and what to do, as well as low/high sides. I am not looking forward to the day I lowside my bike... maybe it will never happen... but I doubt it. | ||

Sinjhin - welcome to the family! It sounds like you have your act together, and that's a good thing. I speak from experience - my first bike EVER was my 99 M2 that I bought brand spankin' new. Nothing like an 1125...but still a beastly bike for someone who had to literally ask, when getting on it to ride it 15 miles home in traffic, "this is the clutch, right?". I guess God really does protect the stupid, because I'm still here - and I'm still riding  Respect the bike. Buells are VERY intuitive machines, they won't do anything you don't expect and will do exactly what you tell them to. Just keep in mind that on the 1125, that includes launching you into the next county if you twist that right hand too far! Physics is physics, and they're called laws for a reason. You canNOT, no matter how good you think you are, beat them. Ride in the rain like you're driving on ice. Skin grafts suck (DAMHIK), and it really doesn't matter if chicks dig scars or not...they suck too (the scars, that is). Take the course, take it SERIOUSLY, gear up (ATGATT - this is NOT a fashion show, the gear is IMPORTANT), remember everyone on the road is out to get you, ride every chance you get and have as much fun as you possibly can. You picked a GREAT bike for it!! And if you haven't already...set the suspension up for your bodyweight, or maybe one weight range lighter (the 1125s tend to run VERY firm when set per weight). I have my CR set for 1.5 weight ranges lighter and it's just about perfect for me. But a properly set suspension completely transforms the bike; it's worth every second of effort dialing it in. Sinjhin, was that you leaving the dealership Saturday on a black CR? We were there checking on the update for our red CR. I can't ride yet (still in a plastic boot for Achilles tendon surgery) but should be back on the CR by the end of April. I like Corzhairs. I live 62 miles away and take my Road King and the Buell to them. Wish I could have talked to you. | ||

2009cr, yeah that was me. Was that you walking in with your wife? I think I remember one of the girls there asking what happened to your leg. If I remember correctly and it was you I am thinking of you said your wife did it to you cause she was mean... hahah. Yeah, small world, right? Ratbuell, thanks. Very concise. I think you gave me some good advice there and I will take it to heart. I have not ridden, nor will I ever ride without a helmet. Is the rain really that bad? I have been very nervous when it is wet out... I really wish I had an el cheapo bike to lowside a few times at low speed just to see what it is like. I am not a masochist, I swear! | ||

Not so much the lowside idea, but the "el cheapo bike" part as your learning tool. You'll see after the training class. Bang around on some mid-size old beater for a few months while the Buell sits in the living room on a battery tender. Then just re-sell the beater in the spring. Cheaper than dropping the Buell while learning. | ||

I am new to the street world as of the new year.... Rode a gsxr600 once and did 178mph then I bought my 1125cr because the gsxr lacked power. And I wanted an American bike... or the closest I could get. It's so fun! One thing I keep in mind to keep my reins tight is that once you let yourself get over confident.... that's when you crash and get hurt. The only time I tank slapped was coming down from a wheelie on the freeway. I just loosened my arms up and let the front wheel correct itself and it was fine. scary though! I don't think the rain is that bad myself. I was riding through this whole recent storm that past, doing 110mph burnouts in third gear every time I was leaving a stoplight. my buddy that followed me said he though there was a jet boat in the middle of the intersection with the trim turned up lol One thing no one mentioned, is always let the tires and bike warm up b4 you ride hard. that's important. It took me about three weeks b4 I really started to ride hard. Now I pin it to win it. But I'm always safe, it is very open where I live, lots of two lane country roads to smash out on. The copdar in my head is on alert at all times. Have fun man. Keep the shiny side up. | ||

Oddly enough I find I ride "better" (smoother and more confidently) in the rain at night.. I suspect there's some psycological barrier about seeing a wet road that makes me slow down, at night it's not so clearly visible and I get smoother.. which probably sounds a little odd.. Another good argument for getting a second "cheap" bike is for riding in bad weather and keeping the Buell pristine (I have a GPZ1100 for that) and for practising the "silly" antics (wheelies, stoppies (not on the GPZ it's too heavy) and burnouts) | ||

Yep... that was me. Funny thing is... she tried to kill me last year. At least that's my story. I was working in the attic and she tied the drop cord to the stair... with big loops. She said it was to keep the cord from falling out of the attic. Well, I came down the stairs, stuck my foot in one of the loops, and took one giant step to the floor. So there I was, one foot in the loop on the stair and the rest laying on the floor. That broke my right foot. Oh... but now... while I was on crutches I slipped on some ice and tore the ligaments loose in my left thumb and tore my left Achilles tendon. Which brings us up to today. The tendon never healed and I had the surgery repair three weeks ago. Now the crutches are gone and I'm stuck in this boot going to PT. So... it all started when she tried to kill me. Hope to run into you again at the shop. There are not many Buells around here, and even fewer CRs. I'm probably the fattest and oldest Bueller around this part of the country. You can't miss me. My buddies say I look like an ape screwing a football on the Buell. But I say, if it feels good... I should be back on the road in a month or so... I hope. | ||

FB, maybe... I'm right around 250 and just under six foot. To big, but working on it. It doesn't really matter because I love this Buell and will keep riding. |
