I have a dent on the front of my 09 cr and I can get a muffler from a friend from a 1125r, will I have any issues? |

Thanks bigs, I was not sure. I know the paint is a little different on them, and the cr has a different swing arm!! |

Both MY08 and MY09 1125s there were two mufflers, a cat and non-cat version (MY10 are all cat mufflers). If the area where the headers interface the muffler is steel color, it's a cat muffler or if black, non-cat. Cali is the only state that got the cat muffler. So, to answer your question, as long as one of your bikes is not from Cali and the other is, the mufflers will be the same. |

Arctic, I think you may be wrong. My 09 cr does have the steel color at the headers and muffler, but the bike was purchased in Texas and I checked the vin and the fourth position indicates it to be D for domestic not L for California!!! |

Part numbers are exactly the same. I just compared my 08 muffler with an 09 cr and they are the same part number. Jimmy |

My memory may be wrong, MY09 may be all cat mufflers. However, I am sure that if it's steel in color, it's a cat muffler and if black it's a non-cat muffler. So just make sure that the colors are the same and there is nothing else to worry about. Jimmy, The part number didn't change. However, there are two different part numbers, one cat and one non-cat. The 08 1125r muffler is black where the header meets the muffler. |

Scott, you're mistaken. If it's steel in color, you are riding a cat muffler bike. The color difference was used for a couple of reasons. First, it was used for identification between cat and non-cat. Second, the muffler inlet of the cat mufflers were stainless steel, verses the mild steel of the non-cat. The reason for the material deference was needed for welding the cat to. (Message edited by arcticcr on March 21, 2010) |

How does a cat muffler end up on a domestic sale motorcycle in texas? Is there any other thing I can do to to check to see if it is indeed a cat muffler? |

Avc8130, I agree with you, I do not think my muffler is a cat muffler, but it does have the steel portion!!! I hope someone can confirm!! |

I think they changed the collector to stainless instead of painted mild steel, that would be the most likely reason that I can think of. I have not seen the internals on the catalytic version, but from the cutaway sections of the earlier models, the original collector was just mild steel. |

All of the MY09 bikes were cat bikes. I had forgotten when "WE" changed to cat only mufflers. |

D adams, again I agree with you on this! unless they put cats in all 09 and later bikes! My cr has no charcoal canister either! |

Arctic, so you are saying that indeed they did put cats in all 09 and latter bikes? |

If that is the case then I cannot use the muffler from the 08 1125r for my 09 1125cr!! |

I must have remembered wrong when we stopped making bikes with non cat mufflers. It must have been only MY08 which had cat cali bikes, and non cat the rest of the states mufflers. |

Scott, just a guess, I'd say you can use the 08 muffler and the bike won't suffer any for it. Cars and motorcycles ran without cats for YEARS and didn't have any issues. I've had older cars without them that ran as good as many new ones that do, provided that they were tuned correctly. The cat is just another EPA bs device that probably isn't going to do a whole heck of a lot on a bike anyway. Edit; I do not have any empirical data to back that statement up, it's just my opinion. D adams, my only concern would be the ECM, and issues with the way the bike would run!! |

I doubt you'd notice the difference. The cat is designed to reduce N0x emissions and is relatively free flowing. Swapping to the 08 is just opening it up a little more (possibly none) and raising the emissions output at the tailpipe. Nothing else. I don't think you'll have any issues since these bikes will run with an open exhaust that doesn't have a cat in it either. I've built and sold systems that work fine on both 08 and 09 models, they're essentially the same for how they run. Slight fueling and timing changes to make them run better and the 09 oxygen sensors are relocated downstream, but nothing else really. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrogen_oxide |

My 09 1125R HDI model here in the UK was a steel colour muffler with a cat (Message edited by Dirty_john on March 23, 2010) |
