So I changed the fluid in the transmission to Mobile 1 V-twin and now the clutch engagement is very different. Free play on the lever seems good, but no friction from the disks until it is almost all the way out and really locks up just before it is all the way out.

Is this normal for a change to synthetic oil and should I do a clutch adjustment to get it back to where I want it? I would really like it to lock up a little closer to the middle of pull because I have more control in that position. I'm a little concerned that it may not actually be locking all the way and that this could shorten the life of the disks.

My bike only has about 6700 on it, and only 300 from me, it was pretty clear that no one had ever changed the tranny fluid until I did two days ago. The stuff that came out was all brownish green and the tranny didn't shift very well. It shifts really nice now.

From personal experience, it seems to be the fluid level that makes the most of an impact, perhaps you have an extra ounce or two than before the drain. Either way, just readjust the clutch to your preference : )

I think the V-twin bottles are all a little too full so I think I do have more oil than needed. The 4 ounces into the oil filter made a huge mess because there seemed to be way more than 32 ounces in the bottle.

Personally, I have never had any problem just shoving a whole quart in the tranny during the change. If an ounce or 2 made that much difference, someone in engineering has a problem. What do you think happens during the twisties (up, down and sideways) with the slosh effect and what is it doing to the level then (remember the tranny and primary share the oil). I also just use regular oil and not the synthetic. I also have 3 different M2's and no problem with any of them. Have you tried the clutch facing downhill. That would leave quite a bit less fluid on the plates and a lot less than 1 or 2 ounces. Well thanks for allowing me to speak.

Yup, uphill and downhill the clutch was still weird, it was way out of adjustment and now I made a video of the procedure. Maybe sticky the thread for future use?

For sure Greg. We'll put it into the KV - Clutch topic.

Just to be clear, this is the thread that should be considered since it is distilled down to only the required info.

I'm hoping to have a new editor in a few more days, waiting for the free VLMC to be released for Windows and to give it a try. If it does what I need I wont have to by anything to do more of these types of things. If it works I'll upload a higher definition version and maybe throw some voice over directions on with it.
