i was ecstatic yesterday morning when Pat told me that the early news about Skip was incorrect! Don't beat yourself up too bad Wes as you were relaying information from the "authorities". sorry that i didn't get a chance to meet you Wes but it was fun running the grid with you! Skip will now be able to use that old Mark Twain? line: i'm happy to report that the news of my demise was greatly exaggerated! Best wishes Skip!!! tim |

Just spoke to Skip's friend, and he is showing signs of recovery. Skip broke many, many bones and had head trauma as well, and has not opened his eyes, but is starting to react to stimulus. Keep him in your prayers, please. |

Hello All, This is Scott from Houston. I'm Skip's buddy who race-prepped his Buell and have been going to the races with him. I heard 2nd hand about the death claims being posted and thought I would clear up things, give an update and a little history of what our plans were. Thankfully I see better information is now being circulated and we do appreciate that. After 23 years away from the track Skip had the bug to go racing again. He was accumulating the parts and pieces to build a Norton 750 for the AHRMA F750 Class. All that was missing was a good race motor and he was talking to Steve Mainey across the pond about building one. When HD but the Buell on fire sale skip saw he could buy one for the cost of a bad ass Norton motor. It was the best of both worlds a new modern bike and two classes he could race in AHRMA with the other old guys. lol After one 150 miles ride we started the race-prep......race pipe, ECM, Swingarm, shock, race harness, CF body. The Buell turned out to be a very nice bike, fast, stable and way more capable than the rider. We were planning to run three events in a week and a half period. A CMRA race at Texas World on 2/21 then an AHRMA event in Savannah, GA. 2/26-27 then the Daytona AHRMA race 3/1-2. Things went great at the first two events, Skip was slow but was riding within himself having a blast and learning his new Buell. Unfortunately things went sideways in second practice at Daytona. Skip, all 6’ 5”, 235 lbs was thrown over the bars going into turn one. From the waist up he has multiple fractures, 5 ribs…..2x shoulders, 2x collar bone and 2x wrists, nose, jaw and cheek. But worst is the major head trauma. At this point he is still in a coma but is showing signs he’s still in there. He opened an eye yesterday while they were moving him in bed so we are very hopeful that he will come out as the bruising of the brain gets better. Thanks for all the prayers and please keep it up we need all the help we can get! THANK!! PS: Congratulations to Pat Mooney for kicking but on his Buell at Daytona. |

Scott, This is much better news than what had been circulated at the track. Obviously Skip has a long way to go yet, but after our long chat @ Roebling Rd, I got the impression Skip is a fighter! My brother had a severe head trauma whilst we were racing together @ Brands Hatch 5 years ago. It's been a very long road to recovery for him, but he is now driving again and is getting along very well. I was in the practice session that Skip crashed in, my heart sank when I realized it was Skip that was involved. It was hard for me to go back out and race after this, I did have to dig deep to put it out of my mind. Lori later confessed, after the racing was done, that this all really shook her up. I did dedicate the two wins on Monday to Skip when I was on the Chris Carter radio show that night. On a lighter note Paul James and I went on the radio show together on Tuesday night to talk up the Buells that were racing, and get as much PR as we could. My prayers and best wishes to Skip, yourself and Skips family. And thanks for keeping us all updated. I'd like to pop up and visit Skip whenever the time is right (I'm only 45 minutes from Daytona) pm me when ever you think the time is right Scott. Pat. |

Quick Update; Talked to Skip's wife Jan last night and she said the doc came buy to check his hands and change the wrappings and he was moving his fingers and opening his eyes more. Each day his brain gets a little better and he does something new. He's trying to find his way back to us I think! Thanks for all the prayers, they are helping!! |

I know I’ve been a little slow in updating Skip’s condition but I wanted to be able to give some good news. Well everyday he is doing something new, it may be a little thing but its progress. While he has been opening his eye in a reaction to pain when he was being moved and stuff, he is now starting to spontaneously open them with no outside stimulus. While he is not focusing on anyone as of now this is a positive sign. I am really glad to report that he also starting to respond to verbal commands by squeezing Jan’s hand. When she told me that tonight she sounded the most upbeat that I’ve heard her since I had to tell her about the crash. This has been really tough on Jan, even though she is a Nurse and knows what to expect it’s different when it’s your family. Just glad to hear her be a little more upbeat. Please keep the prayers coming everyone brings him a little closer back to us. Scott |

Hi everyone, Lori and I just got back from visiting Skip in Daytona, as Scott posted yesterday, Skip is doing better every day. He was moving around a lot, pointing, squeezing hands and trying to open his eye's, this was great to see. But he is still in a coma and has a long road to recovery ahead of him. I did speak to Jan about setting up a Paypal account so that we could all send her some donations to help them out financially. She is going to setup the account and give me the account info, when this is done, I'll post it here and then we can all help out the best we can. Three of Skip and Jan's four children were due to arrive this evening (having driven from Texas) to see their Dad,I'm sure this will help stimulate Skip. Prayers for Skip and his family are sure to help. Hope to post the account info soon. Pat Mooney. |

I Just received an email from Skip and Jan's daughter. A paypal account has been setup for anyone who can help them out with a donation. I just sent $100 and it went through OK. I hope as many of us as possible can help as Skip does have a long road ahead. The paypal account is : jan@bradleymachinery.com thanks in advance for any help you can give. Pat Mooney. |

I'm in for 100 bucks!. Lets help these folks out. Insurance won't pay for a lot of the stuff he is gonna need. When my buddy Scot went down we raised enough money so they could transfer him home via air ambulance. That way his wife could visit every day and still go to work. Leaving him in a hospital bed a 1000 miles from home was really hard on his family. Lets keep this going and see how well we can do. |

Talked to Skip's wife Jan a little bit ago an heard more good news. Seems like Skip is able to follow more and more voice commands. He is now blinking separate eyes and squeeze separate hands based on verbal commands. Although he is still not making eye contact and focusing on anyone he is now starting to track objects with his eyes. They took him in to do a tracheotomy this afternoon which will help when it comes time to move him back to Houston from Daytona. Also while the Doctors are at it they were going to flush his lungs to help his pneumonia. We are thinking he should be able to come home in two weeks if all goes well. Right now the cheapest Air Ambulance that has been found is going to run 11 grand with most services quoting around 40k. Far cry from a ticket on Southwest Air!! Thanks for the donations guys (and galls) every little bit helps and please keep the prayers coming! Scott |

"is going to run 11 grand with most services quoting around 40k." My suddenly paltry c-note doesn't seem like it'll be of any help at all. I hope he recovers fast enough that you can use ground transportation. |

More good news! Today just a day after skip had his tracheotomy and Prestone Lung Flush, lol, he was able to sit up out of bed for the first time since he's been in the hospital. Jan took the opportunity to clean him up some by giving his hair a real shampoo. What's good is that when Jan started talking to one of the nurses about cutting Skips beard he immediately opened his eyes. She could tell he wasn't going to have any part in Jan cutting his beard off. She laughed and told me she had to reassure him she was only talking about trimming it. The rest of the morning he sat there trying to take in his surroundings. Jan said it like he's in a haze now somewhat aware of what's going on but just can't find his way out yet. Still this is great progress for just a couple of weeks with such a serious head injury. I told her she should turn on the 12 hour of Sebring for him tomorrow as he love that race...went a couple of years ago. Please keep the prayer coming.....it's working!! Scott PS: Hootowl and everyone else a c-note is hardly paltry, especially times like this. Everything helps and it all adds up so from the bottom of my heart Thank You All for helping Skips family in this time of need!! I gave Jan a break this weekend an didn't get my daily updates but I did check in this morning. Unfortunately he was having a bad day, has problems with his feeding tube and some acid reflux. Other than this problem the brain is showing more signs of improvement. Skip is now starting to focus on people and knows who Jan is. She said she leaned over to give him a kiss and he puckered up plus she also said it appeared he attempted to speak but he is unable because of the trach. Everyday a little better!! Thanks to all you who have said a prayer for Skip....THANKS! Scott |
