Have any of you used an electric air compressor, plugged into your Uly, on the road? If so, how do you keep from drawing down the battery and damaging the charging system? I'm thinking that running the bike at 2000+ rpm should protect the battery/system. Yes? No? Any experience and/or procedures used would be appreciated. I want to be prepared in case of a flat. Ths. |

I have done it with the engine running at idle, and with the key on only, with no problem either way. I did it with the engine idling the 2nd time I needed it, after wondering about the draw on the system. |

Thanks, Florida. Did you inflate a tire after a flat repair both times? No noticeable effect on the battery, starting, etc.? I'd prefer not to start the bike, just have the key on, if that is okay for the battery and charging system. I worry about the bike vibrating off the stand at idle, particularly if I am preoccupied with the tire and not paying close enough attention. Ths. |

LED Battery Gauge with Remote Flush Panel Mount LED By Signal Dynamics Flashing Green - Voltage Above 15.25 VDC – This prolonged over-voltage condition can destroy batteries, especially gel-cells. Steady Green - Above 12.9 Steady Amber - Above 12.6 Steady Red - Above 12.1 Flashing Red - Below 12 VDC – During this condition, if the engine is running, do not shut down until service can be provided. Restart of engine is unlikely. Reduce electrical load. http://www.customdynamics.com/LED_battery_gauge.ht m#LED_Battery_Gauge_with_Remote_Flush_Panel_Mount_ LED |

I've used my Slime compressor several times, and use it with the engine idling. I worry about the bike vibrating off the stand at idle, particularly if I am preoccupied with the tire and not paying close enough attention. Old BMW snap-up sidestand trick:

I've used mine to fill a completely flat motorcycle tire with the engine not running. No problems. (Slime compressor) |

+1 on the LED volt meter from Signal Dynamics. Battery conditions can vary greatly from one battery to the next. Our Buell charging systems ('06 and '07 for sure) are questionable. Why take a chance? Run the engine at idle while you fill your tire and glance once in awhile at the LED to make sure everything is okay. |

Hey, thanks guys. Very helpful. That bungee tip is great Xbimmer, thanks. I'll definitely use that if I get a flat. Man, that Slime compressor is sure popular. I might look into that. How many of you actually use Slime in your tires? Ths. |

you could fill ten flat tires with a fully charged battey still start you bike. I carry a Slime compressor (cheap) on my ATV. I have filled flat atv tires (five min) without the engine running and never had an issue. My ATV runs the same battery as older tube frame buells. The Slime compressor is really tough. I have this "jump start" battery from Harbor Freight. it has the same battery in it as our XB/1125 bikes. The other day the tire on my Jeep was low so instead of firing up the compressor in the garage I hooked up the Slime compressor to the 12v plug on my Harbor Freight Jump start box and went in the house and forgot all about it. I went out to the garage a few hours later and saw the Slime compressor still hookup up to my Jeep It blew a fuse in the 12v plug of the Slime compressor, I checked the battery meter on the Jump Start Box and it was at 13volts. It had to be running a good ten min....... Slime compressor is a good buy about 29 bucks http://www.slime.com/product/122/Smart-Spair-15-Minute-Emergency-Tire-Repair-(%23SS-PDQ/06).html

Now that I think about it, the Uly is the first bike I've ever owned that has tubeless tires. I've slimed all previous bikes because a tube contains the mess nicely. Is sliming a tubeless tire asking for a messy aggravation when it comes time to change the shoes on the horse? Can I run with a standard automotive plug kit as well and leave my patches at home for the Bonnie? |

Thank you Two_buells. Much appreciated, my friend. That makes me feel better about using the compressor. I have a fairly small one but I think I'll pick up that Slime compressor. Everyone seems to really like it. Thanks agin. |

Add another for the slime compressor. Mine lives in my tankbag, and I've used it numerous times for topping off the tires. I'll start the bike and check pressure and top off as needed as it warms up. I used it once for a flat on my Guzzi, key off, no starting issues afterward. I use the SAE dongle from my battery tender for power. Never slimed a bike tire, though I have heard of shops refusing to change them out due to the mess. |

I don't know if this changed in late model Uly's, but my '09 will only power the outlets with the engine running. I looked it up in the wiring diagram, and the ECM grounds the Accy. relay only with the engine running. |

I don't know if this changed in late model Uly's, but my '09 will only power the outlets with the engine running. They come with alligator clips for the battery too, so it doesn't have to be running. |

Will both power outlets, the one on the dash and the one under the seat, handle a 12 volt compressor? I seem to remember reading something about the dash outlet having less amperage and potential fuse problems but I'm not sure. Ths. |

Both outlets are on the same line, same 10 amp fuse. |
