So, I've been shopping for a new helmet and came across a sweet deal on Shoei RF-1100s--$360 shipped. http://www.compacc.com/p.cfm/c/1903001/p/25819 Sounds like a no-brainer, right? It is.. except for deciding which color scheme to get. I am kinda leaning towards the Sylvan white with gold design. http://www.compacc.com/images/product/400/25819_1. jpg I like the idea of white, as I figure it ought to be cooler in the summer, and most of the other RF-1100s are black or dark. My wife said that she likes the design, but that she thought it was kind of feminine. I think it looks cool, and I don't mind the occasional heckler (dude, nice gay helmet!) but if everyone and their mother is going to think it's a woman's helmet, that might be a little more trouble than it's worth. So, what do you guys think? |

I just ordered the one below from the same place. Note, they take almost a week to ship so if you are fan of instant gratification, you won't get it from them. I don't think they keep a whole lot in stock. Their site said it takes 2 days to ship, but it's more like a week. Mine should be here tomorrow. Should look sweet with the White Unicorn. Oh, and I like the design, but I wouldn't wear it. It is a little fem looking. (Message edited by hogzilla on March 15, 2010) (Message edited by hogzilla on March 15, 2010) |

0 for 2 so far, eh? Not looking so good. I think I'll wait for 10 replies and see what the consensus is. Thanks for the heads-up on delivery time, Hogzilla. I've got a perfectly good, albeit noisy, Shoei right now so if I've gotta wait a week or two for my order to show up, that's no problem. |

If u like it get it. So what if its a little fem. Almost all my buddies have pink helmets for when a girl tags along... I have seen all of them wear there "extra" helmet a few times.. and there a lot more fem helmets then that.... yea its not the most masculent helmet but you can tell its not a chick helmet. And 9 times out of 10 if you don't ask or say somethin to anyone about it. There not gunna comment on it |

Well crap, I guess I don't need to wait for 10 people to give their opinions. I browsed Shoei's website and found a couple of other color schemes for that particular helmet design. One of them is pink. So, yeah, apparently that design is intended for the fems. http://www.shoei-helmets.com/Helmet.aspx?RF-1100&h =18&t=1 I admit, I'm half tempted to buy it anyway being that I'm comfortable with my (manly) sexuality. LOL Okay, I probably won't. So now I'm not sure which one to go with. I like this one because the Shoei logo isn't very prominent, but the design isn't all that cool. http://www.compacc.com/images/product/400/25820_1. jpg I like how the Shoei logo is gold on this one (not as prominent as being black and white) but the rest of the design is uninspiring. http://www.compacc.com/images/product/400/25808_3. jpg The dragon design on this one is pretty cool, but then the damn Shoei logo is OMG CAN'T MISS IT black and white. http://www.compacc.com/images/product/400/25815_5. jpg <sigh> |

A co-worker bought that same helmet above..the graphics are worse in person than the pic. Not exactly bad, but not great. Kinda like the pilsbury doughboy puked on the back. I prefer the solid colors anyway. |

We ordered two arai helmets from competition accessories and got them pretty quickly. I could not find a better price, and I did try. I saw that helmet yesterday and thought it looked pretty cool although I thought it was more beige and not white |

i wouldn't call any one a fag based solely on their helmet choice, but that's just me. it doesnt scream out to me either way. but since you question it, the fem-ness seems more aparrent. alls you gotta do is punch the first guy in the face who gives you shit, and no one else will question it. -disclaimer- nillaice inc. does not condone face-punching, or any like act (eg falcon-punching) and cannot be held in any way responsible for the consequences for such actions afore mentioned in the above light-hearted comments i've seen guys roll up on a 'downy' fabric softener themed bike and matching helmet. not a word was said. i guess some guys can pull it off, and the rest just look like fag-bags. ..... i dunno what to tell you to help you decide. .... get some tat's start smoking, and cursing and spitting on stuff. pee outside, kill a wild animal, itch and scratch at your discretion. keep a perma-'5-o'clock shadow' and hit up the gym. that'll help. or just stop focusing on the image and get the helmet that fits your head shape. who cares what you look like when your helmet doesn't protect you like it should and as a result; you HAVE to wear a different kind of helmet when youre off the bike. 'de-de-dee' .... or just go with a solid color matching your bike's plastics and get a screen to match your bike's accent color. there's always that option. |

have you worn this specific model on your head? i HIGHLY reccomend trying before you buy. i'll wear a helmet around the store for 20-30 minutes, browsing the aisles. never been asked to leave over it. you are still 'shopping', and haven't left the store with unpaid merchandise. but maybe that's just me.... at the least; go to webbikeworld's helmet reviews and read up on it. IMO their reviews are on-point and helped me save return shipping fees, and wasted time. |

I'd definitely try one on before buying, and I like to support my local shop anyways. I just picked up a RF1000 Diabolic. I thought the RF1100s fit looser than most, the medium was way too tight and the large a little too loose for me. |

I'm a woman. And I wouldn't wear it, because it seems too feminine, I prefer a more masculine helmet (I vow to never wear pink ANYTHING on my bike so help me god). I think the fact that pink is a colour option speaks for itself. Sorry... |

If you(TheFleshRocket) are really feeling masculine, you could pick up some of these. http://www.ironhorsehelmets.com Anyways +1 on the try it before you buy it, how it fits is the most important feature. Edited for clarity} (Message edited by VtwinBuell on March 15, 2010) |

I like Arai helmets myself. Make sure you test fit more than one brand. Here's a little more manly one.

Thanks for the comments, guys (and gal). I admit, I'm not worried about anyone giving me shit about my lid choice--my riding buddies probably wouldn't say anything but my non-riding buddies might tease a little. And I'd be really surprised if someone said something to me trying to actually pick a fight. I'd love to "try before I buy" but the closest shops that would be likely to stock this helmet would be in St. Louis--close to two hours away. I've owned three Shoeis before this one (an RF700, RF900 and a TZR) and XL has always fit me fine so I'll probably be okay ordering this lid in an XL as well. Just to be safe, I'll make sure that CompAcc will let me exchange if the size isn't spot-on. It's between the white and gold Sylvan or the black with gold dragon Strife. And I am actually leaning towards the Sylvan. |

If your buying the helmet to match your bike or something on your bike you've answered your question. Listen to your wife they are usually correct about these things. (Message edited by 46champ on March 15, 2010) |

Flesh, I wear a L normally and the L in the Shoei fit perfect. I tried on this same helmet several times before committing and it fits and feels great. They really did a great job with this helmet. Even at the price it is, it's a great bang for the buck. I seriously looked at the helmet you are getting and decided it wasn't for me, but it IS a great looking helmet. I don't think you'll get too much crap for it. It's still pretty sharp looking. I would personally take that over the dragon any day. Dragons are for Busa riders. Update: Helmet showed up today. Looks great. Took it out for a short run and it really functions very well. Nice ventilation. A little on the noisy side, but that's fine. (Message edited by hogzilla on March 16, 2010) |

A little noisy, huh? Bummer. My Shoei tzr has a lot of wind noise which is why I'm replacing it. My brother says his rf1000 is pretty quiet though so maybe the noisiness of your rf1100 is relative. Out of curiosity, what's your previous lid? |

It probably is relative. I replaced an HJC CL-15 with this one. Was quite a step up. I wasn't bothered by the wind noise I noticed, but then again I've been riding Harley's for years. Not know for their quiet ride. |

Anyone know when the mirrored shields will be available for the RF1100s? |
