Okay, I just got the bike back together after the 08 triple clamps, 07 springs, heated grips, comfort kit and several other things that needed to be done. I got the specs from the 07 owners manual and started to adjust the suspension. The rebound is supposed to be adjusted between 1.75 and 1.25 depending on weight, but the max travel of the adjustment screw is less than 1 turn. What did I do wrong and how do I correct it? TIA, Dennis |

Forgive me because I haven't done it myself (just watched it get done/undone on my bike)...but you put it together wrong. I want to say there's something in the disassembly instructions about "turn to minimum" or "turn to maximum" before disassembly...but I could be wrong. Disassemble, look closely at what's binding, and reassemble carefully. Again, sorry I can't be much help...I just watched it happen on my bike during the 10k service and '07 spring upgrade, but wasn't the one doing the work. |

There is a really good tutorial here done by Tootal a couple of years ago. He did an excellent explanation of how to and what to for this job with some great photo how to's. Way better than the SM explains it. |

You have the damper assembly out of adjustment. To set it turn the adjustment screw counter clockwise until it stops, now loosen the whole assembly on the end of the rod, then turn the adjustment screw clockwise 3 turns. Then screw the assembly onto the rod until the adjustment screw bottoms lightly. Turn the lock nut up against the assembly finger tight, now turn the adjustment screw counter clockwise the 3 turns then tighten the lock nut to 22-30 ft lbs and reassemble everything. |

Vern, we had this problem when we did mine. Now we know the fix. Thanks Steve! |

Thanks all for the information. I must have moved the lock nut while changing the oil. I did as Dr Greg said and did not disassemble the damper (per the manual), and I guess this was a mistake. Got to go out and pull the forks again now. Dennis |

It's easy the first time to make the mistake of wrenching on the lock nut instead of the flats on the adjuster assembly to remove the cap... DAMHIK. |

Believe me, I know how you know! I also now know after having to pull them again! Got her put back together now though. Thanks everybody for the heads up. I completely missed that in the service manual! Dennis (Message edited by oldnotbold on March 13, 2010) |

Dennis, sorry you had to go back and redo the forks. Hope all is well now. Get out and let us know how you like it all. |

Greg, Just a relatively short test ride today, but I think all the mod's are great (so far). Thanks again for making the fork locks. They work perfectly. I'll have to buy you a couple if we get together! Dennis |

I went back and reread my thread and see where I left that out. I said to back off the lock nut and screw the adjuster on but I failed to mention I had already screwed the adjuster all the way down before I took it apart. It is in the manual and I'm sorry I didn't mention it. I would write the thread from memory as I viewed the pictures and I guess that memory was not remembered at the time. I tried to edit my thread but it is too old and I'm not allowed to do so. I hope I didn't screw up anybody else. |

Don't feel bad.... I paid to have mine worked on (had the bike in for a belt warranty replacement) and the Factory Tech did the same thing. I now only have 1.5 turns rebound adjustment. |
