I have an 08XT with the stock seat and I bought a black 'tall' seat with the stitching running front to back. Is that seat, stitches front to back, the same one that came on the first Uly's that were 35" high? I've read that in 2005 the seat was 35" high but that in 2006 it was 31.5". Any way to tell if mine is the 2005 or 2006 version? My reason for asking is that I'd like to have the most comfortable (for tall folks) seat Buell has made for the Uly. Did Buell take 3.5" of stuffing out of the seat between 2005 and 2006? I've looked everywhere but can't find the answer. Ths. for any help. |

Considering 2006 was the first model year of the Uly, anyone claiming anything 2005 should be disregarded. Anyway, if you check the New Owner section, there is a writeup on all 3 of the OEM seats from Buell. The 06 Stock seat, the 2007-2010 stock seat, and the accessory low seat. |

There was a Cycle World or Motorcyclist magazine article/first ride report about the new Uly back in 2005 that mistakenly called it "the 2005 Buell Ulysses". That was the article that first hooked me and set me on the path to Buelldom. |

Ths, folks. I checked out the 'new owners' section and remember reading that some months back! lol Sorry Froggy. I've seen the 2005 bike referenced in articles numerous times and often in comparison to the 2006 bike. I'm sure they are meaning the 2006 and 2007 model's that came out in Aug., 2005 and Aug., 2007 respectfully. I didn't realize though that the 2007 model had the seat that came on my 2008XT. I thought that all X's had the 'tall' seat. Anyway, I now understand, and hope I remember(lol), that there are only three (3) Buell seats for the Uly; the 2006 'tall', the 2007-2010 stock, and the low 'accessory' seat. I appreciate the help. Ths. (Message edited by buellerxt on March 10, 2010) |

hmm, if the above is true, that makes 4 seats. My 09XP had the stock seat and it sucked. I upgraded to the "tall" seat. FWIU, it's the same height as the 06, but, stitching is different? |

That's true, Jim. I actually read posts, after searching, mentioning 5 seats! Maybe, and I stress 'maybe', there are three base seat foundations (06' tall, 07'-10', and accessory low) and that a fourth seat is the 'tall' with different stitching and the fifth is the 'tall' in black versus black/orange. |

Good luck trying to figure out the model year stuff. My 07 was built 6/06, (and it had a 3/06 battery in it). I know it has all the model year 07 updates accept I can't tell about the improved oil pump. |

Your VIN tells you what model year you have. |
