Guys, are the front and rear power outlets on an XT live with the key on or does the bike need to be running? I bought a mini air compressor and plugged it into each outlet but it did not run. I would start the bike and try it myself but do not want to start it for just a few minutes to find out. I will not be riding for at least a month and want to know if the outlets are working properly. Oh by the way, the compressor runs when plugged into my pickup truck outlet. Thanks! |

On 08+ models, the outlets are ECM controlled. Key needs to be on, so does the kill switch, and you need sufficent voltage. If in doubt, start the motor. |

RE the power outlets: will the front socket hot wire work for ignition controlled aux lights off a relay? |

Both are on the same 10 amp line. |

You could use the hot wire as a trigger wire for the relay. Strong and ample voltage comes to the pin 30 on the relay from a separate fused 12 or 14 guage wire directly from the battery for unbeatable durability. |

Don't forget that fuse near the battery. |
