I was going to try to machine some variations of the quiet core insert for my pipe. I love the way it sounds it's just a little to loud. Now I realise that it will cause some issues in my rpm range, probably a flat spot some where but what I was wondering is if it would cause any serious problems with my engine. If anyone has an opinion on this I would love to here it. |

if you make a quiet insert i would be interested in getting one from you as well...a little loud at idle, but no problems at speed. thx, dan |

ut no problems at speed For you...do you really think the exhaust becomes more reasonably sounding the faster you go?} |

I have one on my CR and it definitely gets quieter and more "reasonable" sounding the faster I go. In fact, anything over 500 mph I barely hear the exhaust, and it gets eerily quiet over like 700 -- just before it gets really loud for an instant at around 761.2 mph. Luckily, all that pesky noise is way behind me where a wake of ear-bleeders are usually shaking their fists and screaming. But again (luckily), the mirrors vibrate so much it's all but impossible to see them anyway.

From my experience it will be hard to lower the decibels without loosing the lovely bass and rumble. I'm interested in following your progress! |

why is there always so many guys who have nothing better to do than be a smart a$$. if you don't want to participate in a thread than stay out of it. i know what u mean around 4500 rpm the tone changes and it does seem quieter but i'm going to make my first quiet core tonight (probably the first of many until i get a sound i like. |

Paul, below are links to the two inserts I have used extensively in quieting down a performance system without a noticeable loss in power. Hard to find them in sizes to fit bikes but I fabricate my own. What kind are you thinking of using? Also providing jetting or ECM tune is correct for your system, absolutely no harm will be done to the engine. Thanks for the info bob I was planning on making some variations of the cone that came with my fmf pipe, change up the diameters and maybe add some slots. Any ideas u have would much appreciated |

Have you tried the insert in both directions? From what I've seen on Buell boards it can be turned around to maximize the sound reduction. |

> From what I've seen on Buell boards it can be turned around to maximize the sound reduction. 6-one, half-dozen the other. In either configuration, the pipe isn't appropriate in an urban environment, IMHO. |
