Did about 200 miles today since it was nice - I was beating her up pretty good as I usually do both my 1125s - on the way home I notice the right side of the frame is hot, as my right leg/foot but I remember that from last summer so I ignore it - about 30 miles from home my check engine light pops on - so 15 miles later I pull over to check it out and get some gas - it's a front/rear AFV code - go into diag mode and my front AFV is 129! Rear is the normal 105 any ideas as to what's going on before I take her to the dealer this next week? She never ran weird or lugged or anything out of the ordinary - ran great all day and even after the CEL.... 09 1125R with 3400 miles on her I suspected I would have problems with this bike since it sat on the floor and was tortured for a year.... |

when you say hard ridding, how hard was it |

well a little engine brake before the corner and redline a gear or 2 out of it - or on occasion from a stop ill redline a few gears - on one straight today i hit 161 after redlining 4th and 5th - but id say 80% of the time on one of my spirited rides its i keep the tach between 4k and 7k it was 60 degrees out today, bike was running between 170 and 180 degrees - voltage was mid to high 13s |

Possibly a faulty O2 sensor causing weird readings for the ecm, thus richening the system on the front. Just a thought, I could be wrong. |

D adams: Do you know what the sensor should be reading voltage wise with a multi-meter? |

02 sensors rarely go bad, imo. I'd suspect the spark plug or coil, but you said it ran fine so IDK. If the plug isn't firing correctly, then more air will be going by the 02 sensor causing a richer AFV for that cylinder. (Message edited by moosestang on March 07, 2010) |

i would think he would feel a miss if it was enough to make the afv change. my thought would be an exhaust or intake leak |

Thats why I said the O2 sensor. The bike will continue to run ok, but if the sensor is hosed, it will tell the ecm something is wrong and will eventually throw a code. If there are no misfires and it runs fine, I'd suspect something isn't reading correctly. Sure, if the plug or coil started missing it would make it run rich on that cylinder, but I would think that you'd feel it right away given that wide of a spread on the AFV. I just checked mine through the diag mode, both front and rear O2 sensors should read .4 volts when the bike is cold and not running, assuming that nothing is wrong with mine. No real need to break out a meter, the onboard diagnostics work pretty good for stuff like this. Just keep hitting the toggle button in diag mode, the O2 sensors are near the end. |

I do remember scanning through the diag mode and checking those, I am pretty sure they were both reading .4 but I'll check again this morning with the bike off and cold. |

I'll check mine later when I start it to see what they read while hot. |

AFV numbers over 110% usually indicate an intake air leak. |

just a thought on the O2 sensor, the connector on mine broke twice. the mechanic at my dealer said that he had seen that happen a few times. Its been ok since the last time it was fixed. Also i had my front AFV go screwy on mine and it turned out to be the computer was fried. bike would run ok until it warmed up then started poping and backfiring but mine went to the otherside on the front, about 75-80 if i remember right and the back AFV stayed around 100. |

Well, the R was at dealer 2 weeks as of today, and they called and said it was ready (waited on charging harness while it was down for the AFV problem) I've been enjoying the CR while the R has been down - but it needs the new clutch cover fix as I have a nice stain from clutch fluid - switch em out take the R out on a test ride - I did not check the AFVs before I left (my bad) - trip read 23 when I picked it up - rode about 20-30 miles and "bling bling" CEL light back up - get home - same code - front AFV still at 129. Last week they told me "it's just a historic code, we will clear it" - I tried to tell them it happened the weekend before I took it in and that there is a problem with the front cylinder - I expected this to happen - so i am gonna switch bikes back tmrw since they are waiting on parts for the CR anyway. DAMN HARLEY DEALERS!!!! (they don't like Buell here) |
