To all my fellow Buelligans out there...................help! I just did a trip out west to the parents place, about 1100 km's,and was just 30k short of home and the bike went dead, not a thing,I have been replacing the thermo fan fuse all the way due to some sort of problem there, but like I say,the bike just up and died on me,I cannot get nor do I have any elctrics, but the battery is fully charged, all fuse's are intact, when I pulled up,I had to change the fan fuse,to which it ran through the cool down cycle, but that was it,nadda, zip, zilch after that,I have gone right over the bike on the side of the road, and will start looking tommorow, but any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers Phil |

Check the battery terminals, and measure the negative terminal to ground on the bike. Look for micro-nicks on the ECM wire bundle under the seat. Also look around the area where the wire bundle goes under the frame by the steering head. Look for chafing (or welding ). Put a volt meter across the battery while you try and crank it, and make sure it doesn't drop to some really low value. Those are the basics... it assumes your fan fuse was an unrelated situation, which is probably NOT a safe assumption. But knock out the easy checks first. Stay in touch and let us know if you find any more clues. If you are stuck on the road and making no progress, let us know and I can try and dig out the schematic and see if I can find anything from a fan lead that could point to a chafe or short problem. I'd be looking closely under the seat at the ECM wire bundle, right after going through the battery terminals. |

Thanks Guys,Ray from Aus has also been on the phone to me,Reepi,it turned out to be the key switch fuse, which had been totally melted, that frightens me a bit,but I seem to have developed some electrical issues,Wednesday last week I blew the brake light, indicator, low beam fuse as well as the fan fuse, then Thursday I blew the key switch, fuse as well as 4 fan fuse's as well,I now have the bike in the shed and have started to try to locate the issues,as they say.....stay tuned for the next installment, but if anybody has any idea's on what might be causing the fan short, feel free to either post here or email me. Cheers Phil |

Yup... that ain't good. Wonder if it could be as simple as just a bad fan. Got a rock in there? Does it turn freely? |

Yeah the fan is good, because as soon as I put a new fuse in the board it runs again,it is getting oil from the rear rocker cover seal being bad,and it is sucking it up into the fan,my wonder there is,could it have gotten into the fan motor and be shorting out the stator or something, when I put ECMspy onto it I get a stored fault of fan ground?code 36.I have checked the workshop manual, and today will try to perform an OHM's resistance check on the fan. Phil: Are the battery to frame grounds 100%? There have been some weird things happen with bad grounds, especially when other circuits have to search for ground. |

Dio, I will have to say I think so mate,as I have checked them by sight but not any other way,I did have a problem with the one at the steering head but ran a new one last year, unfortunately I have not ridden the bike for a fortnighjt, since it's locked in the shed due to the builders having filled the front of the garage with lumber and goods,be another week until I can get it out, that and as long as it stops damn raining that is,will keep you posted as I find more out.
