I have a 2003 xb9r with about 9k miles on it and I've been having this problem with it for a while now. It only happens at certain times and has happened maybe 5 or 6 times since I got the bike. After hard acceleration the front brakes will drag very hard. It makes it difficult to even keep speed in 5th gear at highway speeds and if I let off the throttle the front end will dive. This lasts for about a mile or so then it just goes back to normal. I've bled new fluid through the system and the pads still have some life left in them. Any idea what's going on? |

What levers are you using? Using the wrong levers can cause the piston in the master cylinder to stick causing that. |

OR water in the caliper. If the levers are correct as Froggy posted, flush your fluid... |

Stop riding until it is fixed! I would start with a fluid change, then go to a master cylinder and slave cylinder rebuild. and then go to buying a new or used system. |

Stock levers. As stated in the first post the fluid has already been changed. |

Yeah a change is fine, but have you flushed it? I would take the caliper off, clean the pots real well, then just flush out the system with new fluid, re-assemble, fill and bleed. |

The system was bled completely dry as I was trying to put a zx6r m/c on it a while back. It ended up not fitting so I put everything back together and flushed quite a bit of fluid through to get all the air out...which took a while >.<. This happened before and after the lines were dry so I know it's not related to air being in the lines, the lever feel is firm and I've bled them a couple of times since then to make sure there wasn't any leftover bubbles. I can try taking everything apart and cleaning it. |

I do a lot of crazy shit but I would not be riding that bike untill you sort out that issue. Even if you dont hurt yourself it sounds like you could really fu%k something up on your bike. Becareful! |

Try this. Carry a wrench with you to open the bleeder screw on the caliper. When the front brake sticks pull over and open the bleeder, if the caliper releases it`s a collapsed brake hose or a bad master, if when you open it the caliper stays jammed it`s the caliper causing he problem. |

The caliper doesn't stay stuck. The first time it happened I was on my way to get gas with some friends and it happened right before we got to the station, so when we stopped we lifted the front wheel off the ground and it spun freely. No problems there rest of the day. The other times it's happened it's gone away before it caused any real problems. When it happens it's kind of like...hey, something doesn't feel right and I notice that when I let off the gas the front end will dive some and it'll be hard to regain speed. I can still use the brakes to stop further if need be, and i can still accelerate, it's just more difficult. It's not really drastic, but it's very noticeable. Kind of hard to explain :/. Just to clarify it only happens when I get on it really hard from a relatively slow speed...like running out 2nd gear as fast as possible on a short highway onramp. If I'm at cruising speed and just whack the throttle open it won't happen. |

Disassemble the master cylinder and flush it out (I mean take it off the bike and take it apart). Clean EVERYTHING. Small stuff in there can cause some big problems. Just another suggestion. Be careful riding that thing!!! |

Is your brake line routed correctly? You mentioned on hard accell this happens meaning your front end is fully extending and if the brake like is not routed correctly then you might have a kink in your brake line. |

how sure are you that it is the front? the nose should dive with the rear brake too, test your drag on the rear brake if nothing can be found on your front brake. |

OK, he's one from the should be obvious but might as well ask department... Your finger(s) isn't dragging on the brake lever when you roll the throttle on is it? Sorry yes it is stupid but one of those things that does need to be asked. |

Sounds like your master cylinder relief hole is plugged. It's that tiny hole in the bottom of the master cylinder - it's made to provide a way for the brake fluid to expand so it doesn't cause your brakes to drag when you don't want them to... |

i'll try taking everything apart and cleaning it...when I have some time >.< sam - yes it is delta - pretty sure, but if it happens again i'll take a look...the rear brake doesn't drag normally greg - no, they're not sloppy - i don't see a hole, do you have a diagram or picture? |

There are three ports in a master cylinder. Fluid in, fluid out and bleed. The bleed hole is tiny - the diameter of a pin. It is by the fluid in. Disassemble the master cylinder - while you are it you should put in a new seal kit anyway. |

new master cyl and you will be golden if you have done what Spiderman said to no avail. |

Maybe time for the ZTL2 upgrade which is new master and slave? That with a new line would pretty much take every single part out of the equation except for the fork mounting bracket. |
