If you are really careful and can get the glass off of the backing plate, then there is a screw behind it. Most likely you will break the mirror. Then the light unit is one piece, you can take it out. But then what do you do with it? The rest of the unit is sealed. in other words you do have to buy the whole deal.

and if the led's did blow, you can wire up the running lights as blinkers with some amber 194 bulbs in the outer most sockets of the headlight assy

If the bike's still under warranty, even the extended service plan, a turn signal/mirror assy is covered

Did the LEDs actually go out?

It is really, really unlikely that the LEDS failed and far more likely a wire is loose.

i was just wondering. i wanted to get in there to adjust the mirror actually. i wondered if i could take the blinker out to get to it. but i guess not. i picked "mudflap" up yesterday and put 15 mi on him. the left mirror is sorta ok, but the right one is looking at the ground. i guess i will have to just rotate the whole brake lever mount.

When I first got Loretta 2+ years ago, I spent a lot of time trying to make the mirrors work for me.
I peened the rivet at the base first, that stiffened the arm so it wouldn't move in the wind.
The glass still vibrated too much to see anything smaller than a semi.

I put the mirror in boiling water for a minute to release the adhesive.
The glass is very thin but peels off fairly easily.
If it starts to go slow, put it back in the boiling water for a bit.

Once the glass is off, it comes apart easily.

I finally gave up and used Firebolt "long-stem" mirrors from a late model and ran the blinkers to the running lights.
I have OK front signals and a much better mirror now.

vibration is not my issue. i just wanted to rotate it up. i have a cr, so the running light thing is not an option.

You can loosen the perch where it meets the handlebar and rotate it forward a hair. I did that, my mirrors are perfect now.

Oh really? My '08 came with rear signals that didn't work.

Did they ever work or did they come broken? Your experience doesn't change my point: LEDs very, very rarely fail and the cause of blinkers not working is nearly always a wiring issue.

LEDs pretty much don't fail. The fault of the turn signals was elsewhere in the design.

Maybe not, but drivers fail all the time. My blinkers never worked. It's all in the design. LEDs can easily be faulted with bad wiring that can knock out a whole array. I'm just saying...LEDs can and DO go bad.
