I have a deposit down on a '05 XB9 Lightning, I am just curious as to what has changed since they came out in '03? It's rough so it's gonna be needing some stuff here and there, just wondered what kind of stuff interchanges between years, and what doesn't?

The 03 has a year specific final belt drive. 04-present XBR, and S use the same belt. The belt for XB- Stt, Ss, Uly(X-XT) will not work. The forks are different between 03, 04, 05 , and I think 07. Fuel injection systems vary through years also. Tell us what needs fixin, and someone can point you in the right direction. Lots of parts are interchangeable, it is a very broad topic though. Hope this helps (a little). Yank that bad boy apart, and bring it back to life!

Thanks for the info. It looks to mostly need cosmetic stuff (bodywork, etc.) so just wondered if that stuff interchanged thru the years...

Was there a change to the air box cover in '07 that won't work with '06-back? Thought I saw that somewhere...

Newer covers will work on the older bikes, not the other way around. 06+ XB models relocated the air intake to right by the gas cap.

Thanks for clearing that up Froggy, I'm assuming that's that screen I see on some of them behind the gas cap?
