My friend Pansy from Advrider throws an end of winter party. I've never been before, but this year I wanted to go. ADV is a heavily BMW board, so I assumed I would be the only Buell there. Of course the party was 950 miles away in the midwest, and it is February, so I knew it would be a little chilly. But I take Courts stories way too seriously, so I didn't really consider options other than riding. I left Raleigh on Thursday morning and it was snowing. It cleared briefly and then started up again around Asheville. I discovered somewhere along the way that I-40 was closed, so I took back roads though Hot Springs into Tennessee. Fortunately the snow had stopped by the time I got to Kentucky, but it was freezing cold. I made it into Lexington, and found a motel with a hot tub to spend the night. A bit over 500 miles the first day. Yesterday was easier. Only 400 miles to go. It was 20 degrees when I first went outside, so I decided to let the sun come up first. That made it tolerably warm. There was traffic and it took forever to get to Louisville. Then things picked up, and the ride to Indianapolis was quick. My last warmup stop was 80 miles from Peoria. I finally arrived around 4:00 that afternoon. 950 miles in below freezing temps. I felt like such a bad ass. And you know what. The only bike ridden to the party was a Buell.

"The only bike ridden to the party, was a Buell" Ha Ha! Good one! Thank you for being "the man" and showing the beemer crowd what a Buelligan loves doing, RIDE! Glad you made it safely, and didn't freeze to badly. Great story! |

Another rider showed up yesterday. He was on a Tiger. Stopped by as he was headed home from another event. When he was taking off his gear, I noticed that he was wearing a shirt with a Buell RR1000 on the back, and a note a about a land speed record in 2000. Lots of Buell content. I was glad to see his Tiger too. I'm pondering what kind of bike to get after my Uly wears out, and that's one I'm considering. He was on his second, which I consider a good recommendation. I left Peoria after lunch, and made it down here to Lexington, KY. Weather was warmer this time. Today I hope to make it home. |

Lost a fork seal on the way home. I thought the brakes were just cold. Turns out they were oiled. |

I wish you had too, it would have been good to meet you. Someone up there has a red X1. I wish I could remember who it was, I passed them on the way back from the airport. I thought that was kind of cool. |

tell me please, how you know me. The first time I was in the area, I went out riding with Pansy, and we passed a red X1 with white stripes on the flyscreen. Sometime later I saw a picture of your bike on here, noticed your location, and sent you a "hey, I saw your bike" note. You wrote back and told me there are actually 2 of those bikes in the area, and I had seen the other guy. So now I've had the pleasure of visiting the area 3 times and have seen both of those bikes. |

Amanda flew up there to meet me. She has the sense not to ride in the freezing cold. We had to snap this picture. (Message edited by jlnance on March 04, 2010) (Message edited by jlnance on March 06, 2010) |
