Thinking (as mentioned in another post) about riding the Uly down to Daytona...but I know that Drummer will kill me with drone. Considering putting the stocker back on for the trip with the valve wired open (since the race ECM won't run the valve anyway). Thoughts? Bike is a stock '06, K&N filter, home made '07 style inner airbox, and Buell P&A race ECM (not a new EBR box...yet). |

I have swapped out the Drummer and/or the Race pipe for the stock setup before...especially for longer trips. But I always just put the stock ecm back in too. The Uly is much smoother with the stock setup...but sooner or later I end up missing the rumble (and powerband) of the Drummer! |

Get a different helmet. Drone seems to vary from helmet to helmet. |

I've got three lids - Arai, Shoei Multitec, and a "winter" Icon (I say winter because I bought it a half size too large, to make room for a thicker balaclava). The shoei was quite nice today with the stock muffler back on...might try the Arai on a couple errands just to compare. It's one thing I learned from my 1125, though...quiet can be NIIIICE!!! Only thing I noticed is a little more vibe in the bike with the stock muffler on. I may loosen and reposition it before I head out again, I may not have gotten the inlet far enough up the header.... |

I used to hate earplugs, but have started using them on longer trips and recommend them now. Just sayin' I may not have gotten the inlet far enough up the header.... Hey - this a family-oriented board! |

+1 on the earplugs. Put them in deep and you should have no droning issues, regardless of pipe. |

Agree about the ear plugs. I have a drummer and with out a helmet its not bad, (I always wear a helmet just rode around the block for comparison test) with my full face helmet, and no ear plugs, its much louder, like its amplified. but with ear plugs I can ride all day without any problems. |

Another note on earplugs: If you're spending any time in the saddle as speed, the wind noise will damage your ears. Some helmets are quieter than others, but the damage will occur, regardless. Start using them and once you get used to the quiet, you won't want to ride without them. Your hearing will thank you for it. |

Ratbuell, I've been riding with race ECM and stock pipe wired open for the last 10k miles. Works great for me. I did this after I sold my race pipe. Vern left for Daytona this morning. I talked to him just before he left. Hope you get to go and have a good time. I need to replace my rear tire, both brake rotors and bearings before I go anywhere. Parts get here next week. Orange |

Pete, that's my goal! Parts will be here next Tuesday. Hopefully we can cook up some nice weather while you are here. I always brag about the mild winters here but it's not been mild this year. Current 15 day forecast is looking better. See you in 10 days. |
