I posted this late last year...but for the newer guys... I decided to check my valves over the Holidays, ALL were "tight" by .001" to .003", UNDER the minimums noted in the manual. I only had 78xx miles on it when I took it apart. Just a note, saying it might not be a good idea to wait the full 12,000 miles. Mike |

weird cuz 3/4 of the people who have it done at 12000miles all say it didn't need it that it was in spec |

It's that little percentage that did need it done why you should do it... |

How do you ride? Do you hammer it near red line often? Many track days? Mine has just under 7000 mi, wondering if I should check it. |

Mine gets rode fairly hard, not redline all the time, but it does get used in the proper fashion. That said, all 8 of mine were out of tolerance, I was only able to re-use one shim. $55 for shims and maybe one other small part, might have been spark plugs. |

shouldn't riding it hard cause the valves to wear to the loose side of the specs faster not get tighter the more run time there is on the motor |

As the valve seat gets worn down it let's the valve return farther up into the head reducing the clearnce between the valve stem and the rocker making the "fit" tighter. |

Mine were tight, but still in spec at 12.4k I just passed 24k yesterday, 24.8k is around the corner. We have almost every size shim in stock so I'm not worrying. Z |
